MD noise reduction?

MD noise reduction?

2002-03-21 by mrhardacid

After only two weeks with the MachineDrum I'm already getting annoyed
with the noise... I have it gated, but I want something more
effective. Does anyone here have experience with any hardware noise
reduction products? I did a couple of quick web searches and came up
with a few guitar pedals and the Roland SN-700.

Any help is appreciated!

Well, when ive recorded the Machinedrum with multiple tracks of audio
(separate audio recording for different drum sounds)
Ive often just used a noise gate
The one I prefer is the Noise Gate in Logic 4.8...ive always had good
results with it.

Could anyone send me an MP3 with such a noise example? I've never had
such experiences with the MD.

Thanks,
Joeri

You may want to check out the PreSonus ACP-88 its an 8 channel
Compressor/Limiter/Gate. All analog circuitry.Clean Audio path.
Does the job great for me...
A MIDI Controllable version is also available (DCP-88)

Hope this helps...

My guess is now, it has something to do with the radiofrequencies
interfering with the MD-Circiuts, but i am not sure...I think i noticed
after having especially much noise while tweaking the MD, after switching it
off i can listen to a local NewsChannel for some Minutes...

I have to admit, i am a little bit unsatisfied with the quality of the MD in
general. Single Outputs Noise, a broken endless rotaryknob, a torn off
Rubberstand on the bottom...
For that amount of money i wish i had bought something using more high
quality in materials...

anyway, Elektron is doing a great job...And i still love the MD.

I will send one tonight. But in the meantime if it helps at all,
mine basically outputs just a pure buzz. When the MD is playing a
loud enough sound, it's not apparent. But if a sound has a long
delay on it, or I'm playing a sound at lower volume (loud enough to
open the gate), the buzz is definitely very apparent.

Is it possible that this has something to do with a ground loop - improper
grounding in your household circuits? That might explain why some people
experience it and others don't.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the tip... I just found this article:

  http://www.guitar9.com/studionine7.html

I'm going to try implementing some of the suggestions this
weekend... Hopefully I can get this worked out. I've also found two
Roland products that are supposed to get rid of buzz and hum, the SN-
550 and SN-700. However, I can't find a review of them anywhere
online... Anyone here ever use 'em?

That is very possible. What type of noise is it? Is it your run of the mill 60hz hum? If so, you may want to get an isolation transformer (creates your own ground) or put all of your gear and your sound / amp / monitors / whatever on the same part of the circuit. I believe they also have grounding kits that you can buy at electronics stores depending on where you're at.

I just got my machinedrum. The only noise i get from my entire setup is from the sidstation.. but that noise is just delicious. :)

Have a good one!

Good. Looking forward to it as I don't have the amount of noise you guys
are talking about.
As someone else already suggested, perhaps it's a grounding issue?

Cheers,
Joeri
