MD @ Customs $$$

MD @ Customs $$$

2002-05-13 by machinedrum99

Well my MD is sitting in customs as I write this :) I'm excited but I'm
also starting to get a bad feeling about some heavy import taxes or
some other bloody fees I didn't know about.

For all you MD owners: How much did you get taken for at customs???

I think it was around $60.

Don't be surprised if they do. Actually, you usually
pay the tax to the deliver service when it arrives (it
depends of the state)

I didn't pay any customs tax on a MD sent to Virginia.
so, depends on your location

Not entirely. When the Sidstation first came out, I had a Sid delivered to
my work address in Virginia via DHL. A couple of weeks later, they sent me
a bill for the ~$35 customs fee.

Evidently there are some other variables at work as well....

Yea it really depends of if you get screwed or not. Most of the time they
wont catch it but supposedly they check 10% of the packages coming in to the
US, so while they check them they figure they might as well charge you. Plus
since Sept 11th they are more strict on checking the packages. Also since
electron includes the shipping in the price you get charged duty on the
shipping too, which is not supposed to happen and is even illegal :o

On a side note, if the package is marked gift they don't charge the duty.
