Depth in a kick? How would you define depth in a kick? :-)))
Anyway, the MD's bassdrum is very nice. There are many different models.
I like the newest bassdrum model the most. It's no TR909, but it can
sound phatter and deeper. It sounds different though. If you want real
TR909, then either get yourself a TR909 or some good sample CD's.

>and if not can't

Sure, you can always do that. There are also enough internal effects to
provide additional power.

I have an XBase as well, and even though I love it as much as the MD,
the XBase is no 909 either. As I said: if you want TR909, there's only
the original.
XBase and MD can't be compared. I'm glad to own both because they really
don't have any "sonic overlaps" imo.
I personally think the MD lacks raw sounding hihats that cut through the
mix, and that's one of the things where the XBase excells. The bassdrum
of both machines sound completely different as well, as does the distortion.

I've had a microQ (not keyboard) over here some weeks ago. Goes well
with the MD.

Joeri

Hey Joeri, or any body else that could give some advice. you say you
have a M.D. and a jomox xbase09. So I got 1 more question for you.
Can the M.D. sequencer be used to control the Xbase09, can the M.D.
send program change commands to external gear. Also can you change
patterns in real time on the M.D. from a master keyboard. I know the
M.D.s sequencer is not really ment to run a whole stage full of gear.
but since I'm a begginner with midi gear, I would like to have a
simple but powerfull set up. How would you sugjest hooking up say a,
M.D. plus a nord Micro modular with a master keyboard, or should the
keyboard only be used as a controller for the micro modular and use
the M.D. to sequence the micro modular.
I know the M.D. is not a complicated external gear sequencer, but I
will only be doing very basic stuff until I learn more about midi
gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
                                     Thanks
                                       Miguel

The MD can certainly be used to sequence external gear. You can use all 16
tracks (machines) for sequencing that way, although that would be a horrible
waste of the sound potential of the MD.

Personally, I would use the MD to sequence some very basic stuff on the
Nord, use your keyboard controller to play the Nord if you want.

If you want 909 sounds, I agree with the others - this won't mimic a 909.
But truly...do we NEED more 909 sounds? I'm ready for something new...I
don't know about the rest of you.

Another box that would compliment the MD well would be the TBS Syncussion,
aka Vermona drmMkII. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself, for that
real analog punch. But the MD is truly a wonderful box, and as Joeri (or
was it Boele?) said, that new TRX B2 kick is GREAT!

I'm currently using the MD as a clock slave (GASP - and NO Crashes!) to my
software sequencer - Digital Performer. I'm running it with a Waldorf Q and
some other outboard gear. But the heart (and soul) of my setup - the MD,
the Q, and my Powerbook with MTPAV via USB. A great setup.

You'll love your MD.

Great, this board is very helpfull, it's nice for a begginner like me
to be able to have a place to resolve some questions. Can't wait to
recive my M.D. does any body know how long it takes to be shipped to
the san francisco area in California here in the states.
                              Miguel.

Yes. I don't know the details though, so I'm glad someone else answered
this one. :-)
I'm a Logic freak, and I use all my synths etc as sound modules.

Yes afaik.

Can't really help with this, sorry.

I got both a micro and a MD... what do you exactly want to do with your
setup ? Live stuff ? Studio use ?

Yes, it can. In fact, you can assign all 16 tracks to "Midi"
Machines, which are basically SysEx instruments that trigger external
devices. These can be mixed and matches with any other kits as tracks
in a pattern, so that you can have internal drum sounds being
triggered right along with the Midi machines triggering external gear.

>>Also can you change
>>patterns in real time on the M.D. from a master keyboard.

Yes, you can - though it seems bit odd it its setup compared to other
devices, I have actually grown quite fond of the way pattern switching
works. Most drum machines will wait until the current pattern has
finished before changing patterns when a CC is sent. However,
the MachineDrum switches patterns *immediately*, and starts from the
beginning of the pattern chosen each time one is triggered. All
patterns in the MachineDrum can be assigned to a different pitch
value, so you can literally "play" the patterns back however you see
fit. This lets you really have control over creating some extremely
funky breaks and abstract beats with erratic downbeats and time
signatures... on the other hand, if you prefer a more "classic" style
of pattern switching, you can just trigger the next pattern on 16 or
32 beat measures.

Personally, I would use the keyboard to control and play the Micro
Modular, and then use the MD mainly as a sound source. But, you could
also use a couple of tracks from the MD to sequence the Micro Modular
for arpeggios or tightly programmed lines. You would need a Midi
patchbay or merge box though, since I don't think the Micro Modular
supports 2 MIDI-Ins.

Hope this helps!

Hey Nostromo, I want to use the M.D. and the micro with a filter
box to add to my D.J. sets to give them a live p.a. kinda feel. Then
when I get more experience with midi gear I well start to make my own
complete songs. I had a yamaha rs7000 which I was using for that, but
I think I had a faulty unit it was full of bug's so I toke it back.
any ways to me it felt kinda toy like, being a all in 1 groove box
sort of machine, I know it is a great machine but it just didn't feel
right for me, and that's what is more important. I would rather build
my own custom setup with gear that I hand picked.

                               Thank's
                                  Miguel
