Help for a simple sid-setup

Help for a simple sid-setup

2002-06-18 by druixx

I wanna make this stuff most simple as possible.
I was thinking about buying a sidstation this summer, but i've no
experience in midi synths, so i want a cheap midi controller (could
you seggest me one?) that you don't have to program with the computer
and i'm wondering if i can plug the sid in my guitar or bass
amplifier, sure i can , but which are the effects? thanks for any
reply

Ola!

If you like it raw, I can certainly recommend using a guitar amplifier! :)
We were using the SIDStation live with a distortion pedal. The noise bug of
the SIDStation is really great with distortion!!
You can use its four controllers as MIDI controllers for a Softsynth for
example, but I'm sure you won't need that, because the sound of the
SIDStation is sufficient.
But..... You'll have to use a sequencer to get anything out of the
SIDstation. Without a sequencer, nothing will come out. If you want to keep
it cheap, just buy a second hand Roland MC-303 to sequence the SIDStation.
You even can use the SIDStation audio input for mixing MC-303 sounds in you
mix. Together with a guitar amplifier this should make a lot of noise!

Oh baby I like it raawwww..

well, i picked up a controller for around $100 a few years ago called a
roland pc-200mkII... it works fine though the keys arent weighted like a
real piano... any keyboard that is midi should work as a controller... get a
midi cable and plug it into the midi out port on the keyboard and the midi
in port of the sid. someone i think mentioned you need a sequencer but you
dont, a lot of times i dont use one. the amps are fine however you have to
keep in mind the signal levels... i belive the sid is line level which is
-10db so you want to plug it into a "line-in" jack on your amp if you. im
not entirely sure however i belive standard guitar jacks are a bit higher
impedence so the sid signal might be a little quiet... or perhaps the other
way around, im sure someone will correct me if im wrong. anyways try it and
see... but be carful putting signals through the sid itself because i hear
its pretty sensitive. hope this helps

just wondering if it's any quieter.

also what's it like to have 6 or 8 SID chips going at once?

(for those who don't know...the HardSID is an ISA card with several SID
chips on it for making noiz/music)
