Sid RESET Problems

2000-01-21 by Ernie

Here's the setup:

Korg Prophecy (Controller)
Logic 4.1.2 (Apple G3)
SID Station V1.0 (With user installed OS chips)

Here's the problem:

Whenever I use pitch-bend or the mod wheel on my prophecy, the SID resets.
This happens with or without the computer/midiman box. I've tried changing
all the parameters in the Prophecy but it still happens. Is this a known
problem or do I have a Sick SID :(

Thanks

Btw, it's not the PSU

I get the same problem... except it's keypress events (IE me plunking
keys on my DX5 and generating MIDI events) along with MIDI sync. After
checking out my power supply on a scope and watching the ripple get down
below 5.25v, I assumed that the extra MIDI events were causing the
microcontroller in the SID to do extra processing, sucking extra
current, causing a voltage drop, which causes a reboot.

Hey Elektron -- I'm sure you guys have MIDI sequencers that can generate
MIDI sync signals, right? I've been able to replicate this problem with
three different sync sources: casio CZ-230S, roland TR-707, and
MSQ-700. Take midi sync, add to sidstation, fold in extra MIDI events,
and _blammo_ instant reboots. Fold in pitch or mod wheel events, and it
reboots even faster.

I've been meaning to either drag a scope home or my sidstation and a
small MIDI keyboard to work and troubleshoot this thing once and for
all...
