I was just experimenting with this: I can assure you it
works.
In SX -> Transport -> Sync Setup: Select 'Sync to MTC' and
the input the MD is on. Then make sure you select 'Sync
Active' (or somesuch, don't have it in front of me) from the
Transport menu as well. Works like a dream.
I was unclear on whether the MD was sending clock or MTC,
but with these settings, SX responds and locks reliably to
the MD clock, sooo....
And yes, SX's clock is all over the map by itself. The
timing is much improved running off the MD. As suggested in
previous posts, you can fire off your MD extended-mode
patterns from SX while SX is slaved to the MD [need a MIDI
out from SX back tot he MD, of course], which works
beautifully.
What I'm still trying to figure out is, how to get SX to
respond to the Midi Start/Stop messages from the MD. If
anyone gets this working, let me know. Generic Remote Device
in SX does not seem to be the solution, and according to
Elektron, the Midi Start/Stop messages *are* sent by
default.
Another SX issue: I'd love to be able to continue to use the
MIDI machines on the MD to scratchpad ideas, and then be
able to fire off the MD patterns from SX (as above) *AND*
route the MIDI triggers from the MD through SX to other
ports on my MIDI I-face. But SX does not seem to offer this
flexibility. Indeed, only the selected MIDI channel in SX
can be an active MIDI Thru, as far as I can discern. If
anyone has any advice here, I'd much appreciate it.
Still smitten with this box. -E.

: Yep, but to no avail. I says SX slaves to Time Code, but
not
