Using MD with Simmons SDS electronic drums

Using MD with Simmons SDS electronic drums

2002-09-15 by oldmanfury

Hello,

I have a couple of Simmons SDS series drum synths (SDS8 and SDS 400)
that require piezo-pads to trigger. I have been triggering them with
the multiple audio-outs from my soundcard, and this works quite
well. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use the MD's output to
trigger the SDS pads? I don't know what the input impedance is on
the Simmons, but it should be pretty high (since piezos cannot
sustain / create any substantial current). It seems that using the
GND-IM impulse generator might be a great way of creating piezo-like
impulses.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it would hurt anything.

the only thing is I don't know what voltage level the
piezo's put out- that is, what the drum synth is
expecting.

But the worst that could happen is you won't trigger
your synth.
