When frustration takes over... PLEASE HELP!

When frustration takes over... PLEASE HELP!

2003-02-13 by belplascaprod <nilsodegaard@hotmail.com>

Hi guys

After 14 years of making electronic music, I'm embarassed to say that
I still don't know everything about MIDI...

Case in point; I'm afraid I've lost ALL the MD patterns and kits I've
been making since I got my MD 20 months ago. That's around 5-600
patterns, and several magic moments among them. Half of it is gone
because the MD has crashed several times, leaving the memory blank
(or full of those crappy factory patterns). The rest has been lost
because I still haven't managed to get sysex-dumping to work
properly. I've tried Atari, PC and Mac.

So; either I'll have to find a safe way of dumping sysex (if it
exists), or the MD will end up as money in my pocket. If anyone would
like to tell my about a SAFE, WORKING way of dumping sysex (using PC,
preferably), FEEL FREE!! I can't use a machine that eats all my music.

Regards,
Nils/Valve

That sucks man.. I really enjoyed that valve set. I could tell you guys did some mad kit tweaking :)
I've had success saving kits and patterns via Sounddiver on PC. I know it's not free but it did do the trick. The one thing i _couldn't_ get working properly though was sending individual kits back to the MD into specific kit slots.. I had to do all or none.
Hope that helps a little,
-Chris

Hi Nils,

I have said it before here, so sorry if you have been this route, but I have had no problems using MIDI-ox (a free sysex/midi manager for the PC. No changes are needed for it to record the sysex (no problem recording it in Cubase SL either). On playback though, the data must be slowed down for the MD to get it correctly. In the help file for MIDI-ox, there is a section on buffers... read that and do as it says, and all will be well (certainly with the latest MD os . I don't know about earlier versions). sorry if this is old news to you. Best of luck.

thinking happy thoughts
amos

Nils, do you need a step by step with MIDI-OX or do you feel like trying it
yourself... we would hate to see yours turn into cash ;-)

hi

Hardware:
Maybe you could find one of those midi data filers like theYamaha MDF-3 ...you should store the data on floppy and be computerless

Software:
Or try using that SoundDiver adaption.

Which midi interface are you using by the way?

**Don't sell your MD...your "set" really sold me on the idea of purchasing one...

Hi guys

I wonder what I'd do without the support from the hardcore gang of MD
users... :) Thank you all for valuable help!!
I just bought a PC (and plan to buy a Digi 001 as well), and will see
if if can get MIDI-OX to work with this combination.
You will probably hear from me again soon if something goes wrong...

Regards,
Nils
