MD with KAOSS PAD

MD with KAOSS PAD

2003-05-22 by Simon

Anyone using his MD with a Korg Kaoss Pad (or KP2) ?

I'm thinking of buying a KP2 and my guess is it would be an
insane companion to the MD in live situation. I thought of using it
for vocals, synths and guitars but then i thought about MD + KP2
= Ouch !

Any thoughts ?

yes. that *would* be sweet. fx are always good :-)

plus, I believe that the KP2 has 3 inputs, so you *might* be able to
do some routing tricks with it and the MD. also, it has some MIDI
functionality (don't know to what extent, though). so you can probably
have the MD control it when you're too busy controlling the MD.

If you get one, be sure to post the results!

Joe.

The Kaoss pad II is a killer combination with everything not just the MD.
I use it a lot Live and it is a very powerfull tool.
The effects sound great and the possibilities seem endless.
I've just finished a 45 min Live demo with the MD, a Kaoss pad II and a
RS7000, maybe i can set it online if you'd like.

The best efx for me are:
- a BPM looper (with filter), you can loop one measure and then mix it in
with a new pattern for instance.
- two realtime samples with a lot off scratch and sweep functions.
- Vocoder
- delay's with filter and variable feedback

I also owned a Kaoss pad I, it is nice but the II is more than two times
better in every way!

I've been thinking picking one of these up....One thing I've been
trying to find out about it is this: When synched to midi, how high a
resolution will the delay go? (I.e. 1/16, 1/32, etc.) also, can you
get triplet times on it? Also, when sweeping accross the pad in midi
sync mode, does the delay jump between resolutions, or does it hit
values in between?
Let me know if you can; These boxes seem like the thing!

Cheers, Jeremy

Thanks for your comments Ronald !
The more i research about it, the more the KP2
gets interesting. If you can set it online or a few
minutes, it'd be great.

I had a Rs7000 for a while but had to sell it, it's
a fantastic machine for Live and studio.
Must be hell with the MD :)

I just received my second MD friday (first one was
broken) and i'll post my review pretty soon.
So far, it's everything i hoped it would be.

Btw, i love the retrigger feature on the E12 synth,
it's something have been missing since i sold
my RS7K. I would just bring both pointers very close
to each other and loop the sample, applied some reverb
and boom, noise heaven.

Cheers,

Simon

Demo is now online:

www.roonan.fiberworld.nl\Roonan-Demo-2003.mp3 (22,7mb)

I had to cut it because i have only 25mb webspace available at the moment.
This demo is made with a RS7000 (almost only internal sounds, just a few
samples used) a MD and the KaossPad 2.
It is recorded as a Live jam as i always do, it's new material so it is not
perfect yet but you'll get the idea.
All my performances are alway's improvised, my ideal is to create music Live
with totall freedom so i can react on every vibe i feel during a set.
I have the MD for 2 months now so i've not discoverd all it's sonic
potential.(just scratched the surface actually)
Also just bought an Evolver so expect more dynamic/dramatic sounds in the
future :-) (i already love this little blue box)

But what's done with the KaossPad.
You will hear BPM delay's, reverse delay's, a synth sound (free pithed), BPM
filtered loop and
sample breakdown (pitched/reversed/delayed/filtered (esp. last 2 theme's).

I hope you enjoy listening,

Grtz. Ronald.

That's badass, man. I'd pay good money for a disc of stuff like
this. Do you have anything available?

I've been tottering on the idea of getting a kp2, which is stupid
because I can get one dirt cheap, but now I definitely will pick
one up.

I can't reach this. I get a "www.roonan..... cannot be found" error.

Joe.

I can send a CD with the latest Live set (45min.) or other past Live sets.
(see my site for details: www.roonan.nl )
They are very different so a little warning there, the one you listened was
the latest.
Normal price is 10 Euro's (incl. shipping) but it depends on where you're
living.
I have no experience with overseas shipping and paying possibilities so
maybe you've got a suggestion?

The KP2 kicks ass. Get one! It's great for the studio and live. I
like patch 99 the best (real-time time stretch). Excellent for use
on all instruments. With the MD it will be a great combination.
