Actually I've been controlling it with the virtual keyboard in Pro-
53! I was using the hardware Fizmo's keyboard but recently relocated
to a tiny room where there is no space for a hardware synth. So I've
been "playing" the SidStation from Pro-53. The SidStation works okay
for about 5 seconds, or about three MIDI notes played on the Pro-53
keyboard, and then just cuts out and restarts. I've tried playing
various patches but the same thing happens.

(I did experiment with editing patches with a Cubase environment, but
I was having problems linking the SidStation with the computer so I
abandoned that, and Cubase has never been open for the last 2 weeks.
This fault began last week.)

anything else going on the MIDI bus? (sync or anything else?)

you could always try a soft-reset. you will lose your patches, but it
might work fine after that.

Dunno about that problem in particular but I did manage to fix some strange
tempermental 'accoustic' behaviour on the SID (most of the patches involving
tables weren't playing correctly).

My fix involved flashing the SID to the default patch bank with a sysex
utility. Note that you ***MUST*** use the sysex patch and ***NOT*** the midi
version. Using the midi version did absolutely nothing to fix my problem.

You may have already tried this but I thought it worth mentioning for anyone
experiencing abnormal behvaiour with the SID. Here are the steps...

1) Download/install sendsx 32 from here:
http://www.bome.com/midi/sendsx/

2) Download/unzip default patch bank here:
http://www.sidstation.com/sidsupport.php

3) Run sendsx

4) Configure sendsx with midi out device/channel

5) Load the default patch bank (*.syx) file into sendsx

6) Click send sysex and pray

I'm doing these steps from memory so they may be slightly off.

Good luck and thank god someone is finally talking about something other
than machine drum :-)

Does anyone know what the solution is for a SidStation that switches
on, receives MIDI data for about five seconds and then resets of its
own accord? It's been doing this for about a week, whenever I try to
use it.

Well jesus, Preston, if you ever want to talk about the SidStation
then I could converse on the subject indefinitely. Especially because
I'm very new to the machine, I only got one (second hand) about six
weeks ago.

I agree about this place, though. I mean, where have all the
SidStations gone? This seems to have become the Machinedrum Forum -
with an adulative nod towards Pharaoh Monomachine with the Third
Coming.

To be honest I would be interested in Elektron (Peace be upon Them)
having a proper forum on their website for this kind of thing, split
into specific sections for their different products.

Re: [elektron] BROKEN SIDSTATION!

That last post was mostly a joke, by the way..

The problem with my SidStation gets less confusing, or maybe more so.
I brought the Fizmo in and used it to trigger the Sid:

Fizmo MIDI OUT > Sid MIDI IN

So the computer isn't involved at all in MIDI activity. This seems to
have completely eliminated the problem I was having before.

(Incidentally, inspired by something a person said earlier here
("anything else on the MIDI bus?") I opened Pro-53 and made sure that
it was only MIDI channels 1 and 2 that were activated. And I made
sure that the Sid was accepting on channel 1. The problem still
happened.)

So I can only assume it is something to do with the computer
soundcard's MIDI. By the way, don't laugh, but it's a Creative Audigy
2 Platinum. I've been using MIDI OUT Port 2 instead of Port 1,
because it is more accessible physically. Anyone got any ideas?

Help is greatly appreciated.
Col.

I asked because early revisions of the sidstation software had problems
with MIDI sync signals.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
