Elektron Musical Instruments

Ive been into the whole synth world for a few years now and still dont know 
exactly what the definition of a "pad" is.  Leads, basses yeah yeah, but 
"pads"?  Maye some kind of slow sweep?  Thanks

Not just slow sweeps, but slow sounds in general... You know, the ones that you
use in the background to give a song some extra atmosphere.
