seems like people will be happy with it. i guess i'm just cranky i
missed out on getting one for a reasonable price. 1900 for one =

I was shocked the sid was so cheap when I bought mine, actually.
They're working with a limited supply of a unique core component. If
you compare it to other synths, yes, high, but it's not just a synth.
It's a piece of some history, a rarity indeed.

ehhh, the price is ridiculously high, as a sid owner, i'm sure u
understand how it is :) it's a $400-500 synth. worth that
practically, exists the hardsid also with the same sound, and waht
like $150? I def think the price jack due to the "final 100" is kind
of a really asshole move to do. I understand supply and demand.
but tit seems wrong to me:(

I hope they do another 100(or more) for the friend price at some point. I'm
guessing that it wont be for sale to everyone at full price till December,
cuz that¹s when 1.0 comes out. I don't have the funds right now to get one,
but maybe between now and December I will, and it would be great to still be
able to get it at that price. As far as if it will be be good, just look at
the thing! no one would spend time on a great design like that and not have
the insides to back it up :)

Have you actually comp'd the synthesis abilities of a hardsid against
the SidStation? It's an astronomical difference in control.

As for 'asshole move', that's complete subjective -- because of this, I
cannot argue (though I strongly disagree). I tend not to take business
decisions or things of commerce too personally.

What the market will accept in product pricing is 'just' in my eyes.
If I disagree, I can take my business elsewhere -- no hard feelings.

Well, the method of rising the price was mainly because we wanted them to
last longer. If we would have kept the price then they would have been
away since long. At least there is some still if you really want them. And
we thought it would be good for the second hand price for all the SID's
already out there! And, don't say we didn't warn about this. We repeated
so many times that it's good not to wait too long. We like to encourage
people to buy in time. Actually I think it's worth to follow the price
scheme of most companies, to sell them expensive to the early followers,
and then let the safe players get them almost free at the blow outs. We do
it the opposite way, we let the first adopters get a price benefit for
daring going first!

Hey, selling it later at the same discount wouldn't be fair. Us
beta testers are going to be the ones doing the hard work here. Our
blood and sweat will be shed in the name of making this a better
product for you and those to come. Some of us may even end up as
martyrs for the MonoMachine cause.
Okay, I admit that's hyperbole. It would be nice to see some
sporadic discounts for friends in the future. I think, though, it
shouldn't be near the same as the "tester" discount and it would
probably be better if limited to current owners of Elektron gear,
though I guess for people who bought used or whatever it would be hard
to prove. Mainly my point is that Elektron need to make a profit and
throwing out discounts left and right isn't going to help them. The
profits from the Sid brought the MD, the profits from the MD and Sid
brought the MonoMachine, so hopefully the profits from the MonoMachine
will eventually lead to another product in the future. So think of the
money you spend on the MonoMachine as your way of contributing to the
cause. Or not.

Well I ment it as before 1.0 came out in December, so it would still be in
beta. I'm talking like this month or next. Like another 100 units or
something, since these sold so fast.

Seriously, I applaud Elektron doing business this way. We all know
how much of a collectible the sid really is. They just reinforced that.
Of course, I already own one :)

It'd be nice if they had 100$ discount for christmas when they say
they're having 1.0 out in December. Just an idea. It'd get the
periodicals talking.

You'd get alot of sales at the last quarter. Then next year will be
hell because the boss man will complain how every month's profits are
less than December2003. So never mind....
