MD Input

2003-09-28 by omnipresence_data

hey everyone,

just curious as do what kinda of way have you used the inputs and
input machines in the MD? I've only had mine for a little while, but
I've tried a few different ways of using it.

- mic in--> set AMD to full, and change AMF around until you get
something sounding good. you can often sing chords with yourself in
this way :) .

- synth in--> just stuffing around with most parameters to get
interesting sounds. sometimes using parameter locks to add extra
depth to the character of the sound.

what things have you done?

I'm using the synth in now on a track I'm working on. I play with the
delay send and distortion. Usually I lfo a filter. Also mixing in a
gated filter can make for some guitar-like wows.

I still don't understand how some of the input machines work. They
seem to be buggy to me at times. It would be nice if Elektron could
elaborate on the use and function of these machines. I experiment
with them alot and I'm still confused.

Using the mic, I just put up a track in soundclick.com that uses the
filters and other amd and others. I say "take" alot and some other
gibberish. When I say "take" it would come out as "break".

Check "Take Take Take" Here:

just a question: are you pre-amping the mic before you
plug it into the MD, or running it direct? just
curious... I didn't think the MD had mic-sensitive
inputs... is there something in the manual I missed?

thanks,
kevin

surrounded!

2003-09-28 by marc davidson

hi y'all ,

I started contemplating the potential of MnM and it occurred to me that
it may ( at some future stage )
have the capacity to mix its output to surround . It could be extremely
useable ( using the joystick ) to
achieve this and also to become a midi controller for 5:1 mixdown (
nuendo etc ) .

I must say I am still waiting for mine to arrive and have started
involuntary salivation ( in a Pavlovian
sort of way ) at the prospect of firing this puppy up !

Thanks for the demos guys...

Anyhoo (re : surround ) what do you think about this ?

hey,

I haven't been pre-amping the mic, its just SM58 direct into the
inputs. I usually have to push the volume and level a little bit,
but nothing drastic.

I think it's an excellent idea, and am surprised nobody else has
replied to this comment yet!

The more synths that are 5.1 capable the better. Although I must
stress, by that I mean 5.1 capable FROM THE GROUND UP and not just a
lazy "surround reverb" or "surround panning" effects tacked on at the
end.

Also, regarding surround for the Monomachine, I think sp/dif out
would be a very good idea.
