Monomachine impressions?

Monomachine impressions?

2003-10-02 by Ravi Ivan Sharma

So, how is everyone doing with their monomachines?

I personally have been very busy so I haven't been able to devote
much time in the last week or so. But in some ways I don't mind
since the unit appears to be quite beta and I am afraid to spend too
much hard fought time programing when such sometimes vanishes and
may be likely to vanish again as the o.s. progresses towards 1.0.

Loving it, hating it, or jury's still out?

The way I see it, if I can't find much time, at least in a couple of
months or so I will have a better O.S. and a machine full of patches
to tweak and work from.

Time spend programming is never a waste, you always learn fom it :-)

I like the MM a lot, it is everything I expected from it.
A VA build like a MD.
To bad some of the most powerfull features are not working yet.
I can't wait to use realtime parameter recording.
Sound wise it is very dynamic and powerfull just like the MD.
The structure of the tracks are very clear although I don't
understand all the synthesis parameters completely.
And it sure would be nice to have presets.
It's not difficult to program but it can be inspiring to dail
through some sounds and use them as starting points.

Ronald.

Just a thought, but a couple of you MM pioneers have
said it would be nice to have some patches to tweak
and build from.

I'll bet the guys at Elektron have quite a few.
Elektron may not feel what they have is ready for
commercial release, but I'd think anything would go a
long way to putting smiles on the faces of all you
Beta dudes!

What do say Daniel?

Hi all,

this is my first post but I've been reading a lot, and thanks for
the comments.
Actually, something happened with the MM during my first couple of
days of testing, I couldn't get any real bass sound and tried to
transpose down to hell until.... ...I realize I had an EQ on my 01V
cutting all med/low frequencies ;) I removed the EQ and played the
patches I made and woaw, I was so happy as I understood it had a
really wide array of sounds.
As for the MD, you have to tweak a bit but you can get easily great
stuff.
As many others, I'd appreciate a more convenient mute system for
live application, and I'd also like a MM without keyboard.
Possibility to group 1 to 6 sounds together would be a real plus.
I also prefer the drum samples found on the MM to those of E12 MD,
they simply fit better for what I'm doing (especially the snare =
Mister Elektron, there's no way to dump these sounds into my MD if I
send it to you ;) ?) I have the feeling these samples are based on
an R8 but I'm not sure, anybody has an idea ?

Otherwise, I experiment one regular bug : the sounds stop and are
replaced by a high pitched and infinite Beeeeeeeeppppp, has anybody
met the same pb ? I hope it doesn't come from the hardware.
Finally, it will sound stupid but I never managed to launch the
arpegio (didn't find the page), it's probably simple but didn't
focus on this feature, could somebody help me here ?

I'll add some more comments after a few extra sessions on the
beast ;)

Cu, matt

Yes, I had the same problem.
It was with a pattern with only the voicemachine on track 1.
It "beeped" at least 50% of the times I switched to that pattern.
After removing the locks on step one I wasn't able to reproduce it
again so it seamed it had something to do with the locks as well. If
you have a pattern wich still is causing this please dump it to sysex
and send it to Elektron, they are very eager to reproduce this bug.

Press Funtion + [ARP] button (bank key)
Then rotate the first encoder to set an arp speed. The arp won't work
untill you set a speed!

Hmmm... Actually we do not have any yet! I think most of you do much
more musical things with it than we do right now. We're just trying
to provoke it to disclose all bugs! :)

No, they are original sounds.

That's a DSP crash. If you encounter it, please try to find a way to
recreate it and contact us. It is probably helpful if you can do a
full midi dump. If we can recreate it we will be able to sort it out.

I've encountered this several times, but nothing that has been
reproducable. One time I was playing a pattern round and round, and
fiddling around with the joystick at the same time. After a while I
got the DSP crash. Reboot of MnM. No way of reproducing the crash. :(
