Refer to the Monomachine Quickstart for information on the

Please backup all user data via sysex before upgrading. No

Re: New Monomachine OS 0.91 released!

2003-10-11 by Roonan

I had a hard time loading the new OS.
Did it with MIDI-OX and had a lot of problems:
- Xp crashed a couple of times with a blue screen while in MIDI-OX.
- Loading SYX file into MIDI-OX took a long time, it seemed to hang.
- Recieving the SYX file failed a couple of times.
Strange since I never had any problems with MIDI-OX

Solution to this problem seemed to adjust (both) the buffers in MIDI-
OX:
Size to 2048 and number to 256.
I tried a couple of lower value's but with this value's it finally
finished succesfully.

About the copy/paste fix.
Copying tracks worked o.k. but the machine isn't copied.
Instead you get the SIN machine.
I suppose this is not as designed and will be implemented later?

Ronald.

hmm....it worked for me just fine. I think I was using the DPRO Wave
machine, but I'm not sure.

I'm just happy that realtime parameter recording and pattern copy/paste
work. It's really bringing things to life now :-)

Joe.

Me too!
To me those were the most powerfull features missing.
I'll try more with the copy/paste thing.
Did you paste a track or a pattern?

Ronald.

Since you have windows use windows media player and load the mid file. Much easier
for this kind of thing. I do it all the time, no problem.

So far, I think I've copy/pasted a pattern and a machine. I don't think
I've tried tracks yet. (But the machine's the one that you said wasn't
working, right?) And those worked just fine.

The copy/paste of patterns is, in my opinion, an essential feature when
there's also a transpose feature.

Has anyone here been able to upgrade their MnM to OS 0.91 using Mac OS X?? I cannot get it to work for the life of me!

HELP!

I was able to.

The process was to use 'Sysex Librarian' (look for it at macupdate.com)
to back up my individual banks and kits, then I booted and did a
factory reset on the mono, then applied the OS update, then reloaded
the banks. I couldn't just run the update successfully.

The MIDI interface was a Digidesign MIDI I/O on Mac OS X 10.2.6.

Re: [elektron] New Monomachine OS 0.91 released!

That's weird. I am using Sysex Librarian as well. I am using a MOTU MIDI Time Piece AV on Mac OS X 10.2.8. Are there any known issues running OSX 10.2.8? I got the Sysex Librarian to backup the Mono, but I didn't try a factory reset. I will try that right now.

Thanks!

Ok, well, I tried a factory reset, started in the early boot menu, selected the MIDI Upgrade and then started sending the update. Still getting a message stating "Upgrade Failed. Switch Power Off And Try Again." I have tried multiple, multiple times! Any other thoughts?

Thanks again,

Ah, I forgot to mention (so sorry about this) that I had to go into the
prefpane for SysEx Librarian and increase the message interval to
250ms. I believe the default was 125 or 150.

Does this help?

Oddly enough, I saw a posting that Ronald put up about using MIDI-OX and he said the same thing, so I had already tried setting the message interval to 250ms. Any other thoughts? Daniel?

Thanks,

Try using windows media player. I don't know if the mono has the os
in mid format. And I've never used this mac im typing on to uprage my
synths. It works without a hitch in windows ('me' mind you).

I'm ready to get a mac, btw.

If you use windows media player, how do you assign the player to play the file out the correct MIDI port (I am using two MIDI Time Piece AV's networked together)?

Thanks,

Try using windows media player. I don't know if the mono has the os
in mid format. And I've never used this mac im typing on to uprage my
synths. It works without a hitch in windows ('me' mind you).

I'm ready to get a mac, btw.

Go to your control panel and change the midi settings in your sound settings. Make
your midi interface your main midi player. Go to applications>utilities>audio midi
setup. You set up your out port here.

Warning for everyone, turn down your volume when listening to old
patterns :-)
All my patterns sound distorted now.
No problem of course, I'm very happy!
The levels of the MD and MM can be machted much better now.
Maybe I was the one with the most problems since my mixer has no
gain on most channels and i keep my mix faders at 0 DB for ease of
use will going live. (mackie 1202)(I do my level mixing in the
kits/patches so i don't have to worry about them on stage.)

Also very happy to see that the pattern selection idea is
implemented so you can see wich pattern is playing. (I guess you
already planned this but nice for me to think I helped a little :-)
But I'm not sure if it should blink like crazy as it is now, any
reason for this?

The filter sounds even better now but i.m not sure how the highpass
resonance works, seems to do nothing?!?

But most of all, thanks again for the update, this MM keeps getting
better and better!

Ronald.

YES!! Very nice that we will be able to use sequencer in poly-mode!!!
This makes me very happy.

Little update on testing new beta:

I found out how the filter works now, very good indeed!
It has much more sonic possibilities now especially with the
improved EQ. Lowering distortion makes more sense also because you
can lower the extreme volumes if you use a lot of resonance.(and it
can go pretty extreme now if you let the freq. almost cross of the
filters) Playing with all these (new) parameters gave me a much
bigger sonic range then with the last OS. Good job elektron!

Ronald.

Wow, sounds good!
But one Question:
Do i have upgrade first to 0.91 or can i go directly from 0.90 to 0.92?
I saw that inside the 0.91-Zip is an *.S19 file, does anyone knows
somothing about that?
By the way, does really noone knows how to change the contrast of the
display of the MonoMachine???
Thanx,
Stefan

You can just upgrade from .90, no need to baby-step to .91. This
aren't incremental patches, these are full OS loads.

Sorry for the dumb question, but could someone explain to me in
simple terms how to upgrade my OS using a Mac and OSX? I know I'll
have to get a MIDI interface (probably a cheap USB deal). But then
what? Thanks all!

[elektron] Re: New Monomachine OS 0.92 released!

2003-11-06 by mackroscopic

Andy,

It's really easy.

Download a program called SysEx Librarian (search google or the archives for the
link).

Download the MM OS update.

Plug in your MIDI interface so that the computer is sending OUT to the MM's in.

Launch SysEx Librarian and open up the OS update. Go into the SysEx Librarian
preferences and change the "Pause between played messages" to 250 msec and close
preferences. Select your midi device in the drop down menu in the window.

Turn on the MM while holding down function and select option 5 (midi upgrade).

Press play on SysEx Librarian.

Watch the sequencer lights light up.

It's that easy!

Chances are it might fail the first time you try (it usually does for me). Just turn the
MM off and start over.

I just got my Edirol USB MIDI interface and after a few minutes
fiddling with the drivers I got it to work and upgraded to 0.92!!
Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and tips on how to upgrade, if
I can do it anyone can!! :)

New Monomachine OS 0.93 released!

2003-11-28 by daniel_elektron

Here it is! Tons of code is rewritten, lot's of new features added.
Many were suggested from this group, thank you all!

Highlights include:

* Mute mode added
* Chord sequencing in internal sequencer for arp and poly
* Transpose of individual tracks in song mode added
* Full functionality of the MIDI sequencer with individual
  arpeggiators
* Ensemble synth added
* Two additional oscillators in SWAVE-SAW (now 8 in total!)

A memory reset will be needed as memory structures has been changed.
The unit will freeze on first restart, please enter early startup
menu and select factory reset to get going.

No more features will be added until OS1.0. We will spend the next
two weeks finding bugs and adding presets. Hope you will want to
participate! I will post guidelines for how this should be done soon.

Please test everything thoroughly so we will get a stable OS1.0
release.

Now, go get it!

wow! quite an update! You've made an incredible machine even more amazing!

I *really* like that individual track transpose now works in song
mode. that *greatly* extends the power of the song sequencer, in my
opinion.

I also love the mute mode. but I do have one gripe: the led's stay lit
when you have FUNCTION held down, which is fine. but if you minimize
the mute window, you have no idea of remembering which ones you
changed. so it would seem natural (to me) to change the led color of
the tracks whose mutes have been changed. right?

sorry to add a gripe to this. it really is quite a fantastic release.
you Elektron folks should be very proud! :-)

Ok. Back to playing...
Joe.

Re: New Monomachine OS 0.93 released!

Hi Daniel and the rst of the elektron team!
Thanks for this, so we can look forward to the final release. I am
happy to see my reported bug_135 is fixed and you was able to
reproduce it. It's a bit sad that i will loose all my sounds and
sequences i programmed on the MM, or is it possible to load them after
updating to 0.93 again, i don't think so ?!? Well, i will save them
befor, who knows...
Anyway, all addet features sounding great, and i will spent most of my
free time with testing OS. So let's get a stable OS1!! Come on!
Still i didn't found out all the possibilities on this machine, but it
is fun to explore and to get deeper and deeper. Presets would be
helpfull, but without them it is the best way to produce good sounds
and sequences, just like on a big modular system.
One thing: As i understand you, there will be no changes then (except
bugfixes) with 0.93 to 1.0? Does that mean, all presets i create will
work in os1 which are created with 0.93? I will see.
Wonder what else could make MM-Owners happy, how much space is still
available for the future?
For now, let's look forward to the final release...
Stefan

Thanks! Great job!
I really like the chord program for arp. I get very good results in
seconds with it. Especially since you can now combine arp and locks
for extreme dynamic results.

But I do have some comments:
Mute mode can be confusing, it's great to have midi alongside the
mono tracks but for easier navigation I guess it would be better to
have the midi tracks start from button 9 so that they are visually
split. And when a track is muted it could blink (2hz) and unmuted
steady lit like now. This way it's looks still different from other
modes and it's easier to find a track.
And why is the little mute window still in the middle? A lot of
people didn't like this on the MD and asked to change that in an
update.
When I erase a track the machine is also reset to GND.
Clear melody is clear locks?! Great feature though!

But I'm very happy and I want to share the first thing that came out
off the new features arp/chord and ensemble:

for me, the only dream feature would be the ability to dedicate a MIDI
track to an internal track instead. i.e. the ability to play 12
internal tracks instead of 6 :-)

I'm quite sure that it's impossible though, or they would have put it in
there (but I can dream, right?). this thing just sounds so damn good
that I find myself running out of tracks very quickly!

BUT my *realistic* dream feature is the ability to play two (or *gasp*
three!) notes at once in the drum machine. we'll see what happens...

No, unfortunately all will be lost when upgrading. We wanted to do
this now before going to 1.0. It was needed to get some stuff in,
such as chord programming and song transposes. We will try to avoid
changing things in the memory structures for any further update.

Yes, that should be. However, slight changes to the sound may appear,
but nothing drastic.

The battery backed SRAM is filled to the last byte, as well is the
different DSP RAMs. We still have space in flash and DRAM for the MCU.

Go get the new Monomachine OS, this time 0.94!

This is mainly a release for bug fixes and small tweaks. We have
addressed all bugs we have got reported and could reproduce. Please
check again with the new OS if you still can find some bugs in the
hiding in the corners!

Please test everything thoroughly so we will get a stable OS1.0
release. Thanks for all good reports we have received far.

You will find the OS here:

Yesterday, I did not use realtime record to enter anything unless
completely necessary. Today, I'm not entering notes without it! The
adjustment to the realtime record timing has made all the difference in
the world for me. Cheers to Elektron for making this right.

Monomachine OS 0.95b released

2003-12-17 by daniel@elektron.se

...as we messed up a feature thats very important for the presets
creation we felt we needed to release a fixed version of the latest
0.95 OS right away. This time the joystick should work also in multi-
trig mode!

You will find the 0.95b OS here:

http://www.monomachine.com/beta/

If you don't need the joystick in the multi-trig mode (for instance
for making presets!) then you can wait for the 0.96 that should be
released at the end of this week.

Monomachine OS 0.97 + users manual released!

2004-01-07 by daniel_elektron

Go get the new Monomachine OS, this time 0.97!

This is mainly a release for bug fixes and small tweaks. We have
addressed all bugs we have got reported and could reproduce. This
will be the base for OS1.0 if no major bugs are found. Please check
quickly if possible as we plan to release the 1.0 OS shortly.

A draft of the users manual is also released. The main part is there,
but the appendix describing the machines is yet to come. Please
report any errors, omissions or spelling mistakes to info@....

You will find the OS and the manual here:

excellent! it looks my MIDI transpose bug report made it in just under
the wire! and it's just in time to finish the song I'm working on :-)

I'm very happy to have this manual; many things are making much more
sense now. I'm excited to see the machine appendix though so that I
can learn what some of those abbreviations stand for in the synthesis
section.

Question: the manual mentions something about a transportation bag for
the SFX-60. Does Elektron plan on making a similar case/bag for the
SFX-6? Because I know that there are at least a few of us who aren't
sure how to transport it safely (and without spending $300 on a custom
case). I think the main concern (the one that would keep most people
from putting it into a standard keyboard bag/case) is the joystick and
not damaging it in transport.

Full users manual released!

2004-01-12 by daniel_elektron

I have posted the full user's manual, including the machine
references. It went up to 130 pages at last... Phew...

You'll find it at:

www.monomachine.com/beta

Sorry for not being able to reply to all questions recently. It's
just been too much, with the manual and the final release
preparations. But I think the presets are turning out really nice,
and will show many different sides of the Monomachine. The joystick
might turn up as jack in the box as the live performances best friend!

We are now waiting for the printing of the manuals, and will release
a final OS in the mean time with the presets, hopefully tomorrow or
the day after. The sales of the SFX-6/SFX-60 should start shortly
after, as we get the manual delivery confirmed.

I will go to NAMM tomorrow morning. We won't be participating in the
show, just having some private demonstrations. If any of you are
there and want to meet up, drop me a line!

Hope you will enjoy the user's manual!

Daniel

the machine references are *immensely* helpful in understanding the
Monomachine. I'm excited to get a printed manual, though.

BTW, did anybody else work through the VO tutorial? I understand this
machine much better now (and quickly prepended "I love my" to it
saying "monomachine" :-). but did anyone notice that it describes
the syllable "mo" of "monomachine" to rhyme with "no"? that is, when
it should really sould like "mah" (which is how they tell you to program
the "ma" of "machine")...

isn't the english language great? :-)

Joe.

Where are the names of the preset designers?

Re: [elektron] Full users manual released!

I think they are mentioning British English "mo". The Brits don't
pronounce the vowels as harsh as we N. Americans. You also must
know that most Swedes, and most of Europe, speak or learn English as
or from England/the English.

I've yet to read the manual.
