SQ16 resets the sidstaion when I start it!

SQ16 resets the sidstaion when I start it!

2000-07-16 by andrew sargeant

from a friend in need :

[ I'm having one BIG problem that's preventing me from writing tunes now
though. My SQ16 stepsequencer (traded some shit to get it) resets the
Sidstation when I start it! It must be sending out some f****d up code. I
emailed both Elektron and MAM (who make the SQ16) to try to get some help.
Both pieces of gear work fine with everything else, except each other. But
I absolutely need them to work together, since I need the SQ16 to sequence
the SidStation. ]

does anyone on this list have similar problems? i've heard some people talk
of reseting with certain gear (how have they got around this?) Any headway
on why this could be occuring ( we talked about illegal midi messages
before?) and why it's only the SIDstation (all other gear works with this
sequencer).

Seems like a fairly critical bug / issue ..

Thanks, Andrew for getting the message posted! I just found the
list, and figured that I should join! So, this is that famous
Sidstation list :)

For everyone else, I'm the "friend in need" that Andrew mentioned in
his original post. I just got my SidStation, and I love it. Once I
can get the SQ16 to co-operate with the SidStation, I'll be a
contributing member of Sid-society :)

Sometime this week, I'll be going to the Canadian MAM distributor,
and he's going to try to help me figure out exactly what the SQ16 is
outputting when I start up the sequencer. (or, can someone reccomend
some PC (Windows) software that I can download that can help me
monitor MIDI events?)

Thanks!

Simply outputting MIDI time code used to regularly reset my SIDStation
when interleaved with MIDI notes. However, I haven't had any problems
since upgrading the OS to 1.10r33, so you might want to try that if you
already haven't.

This is a brand new SidStation, so it's already got that version OS...

One new development, though ... I set the SidStation to MIDI channel 14.
When I mute channel 14 on the SQ16, the SidStation doesn't reset. It only
resets when it receives something sent on its own MIDI channel. (But then
again, if I use Cakewalk, or a keyboard set to channel 14, everything is fine)

Try MIDIHack from Techno Toys:

Pretty handy tool.
