[Daniel] Question about erasing locks.

[Daniel] Question about erasing locks.

2003-11-06 by Roonan

Playing with the MM I found a lot of times I messed up a good pattern
by recording locks wich didn't exactly do what I wanted. No problem,
just record it again but hey, how do I clear the locks without losing
the melody? As far as I know there is no easy way to erase parameter
locks. On the MD it is done by tapping a trigger twice.
On the MM this is not a good solution since your melody and note
length information will be lost when you do this. It's also time
consuming when trying this on an 4 measure pattern.

Maybe it's a good idea to make the erase track a double action.
So function + erase once is delete only the locks.
Pressing it twice is delete locks and trigs.
Pressing again is undo and everything is restored.
Perhaps it's not the best way to do this since it will change the way
it works in comparison with the MD.
In that case maybe Elektron can come up with another way to erase
only locks? My guess is a lot of people would like this function.

Ronald.

good...

getting there...

YES! YES! YES! YES!

seriously, all these ideas are absolutely terrific. but I really do like
the fast undo option here. as far as the "it will change the way it works
in comparison with the MD" comment, there's an easy solution: update the
MD to have this functionality too. it's THAT good of an idea :-)

also, regarding the deletion of patterns: I think it would be a good
idea to extend your undo solution to them as well. that is, pressing
function+clear deletes the pattern, but pressing function+clear again
restores it. both of these undo solutions will ensure that nobody ever
mistakenly deletes something. and since pretty much everyone in here
(including me) has complained of accidentally deleting things at least
once, I think everyone would appreciate these options.

anyway, great ideas Roonan!

Joe

I just use the same method as on the MD, press the parameter knob
while holding down the trigger button and it erases the lock. (?)

cheers

that erases ONE parameter lock for ONE step. if you have 64 steps and you
want to unlock EVERY locked parameter on each one of them, it can get a
bit tedious. :-)
