no activity?

no activity?

1999-10-30 by Dennis Schürger

hi everybody out there,
i see no activity out here, so i had to post this mail. ( it may have no sense, but somebody had to write something!)
this community has exactly 51 members, but only a minority of them seem to JOIN this community!! hey we all use sidstations, so normally we have something to discuss about, even if nothing really problematic is to dicuss, we could talk to each other and just communicate and talk about everything, which is connected to a musicians life........... okay this is an elektron-users mailing list, and normally we should discuss about sid specific problems, but it would be a lot of more fun (especially for me personally) if we could hear the sidstation in context with user-made music, but i dont really know if this is possible in this mailing list. even if his may sound idiotic, i want to get in contact with other musicians using the sid,and maybe not only the sid.......
anyway, joeri created this mailing list to form a platform for the community of sid users and musicians, and i think we should form a community, but i dont think it is a community, if only 10 people out of 51 get in contact to each other, even if they join the same mailing list of only a few sidstation users. (and this community should be overviewable, because there wont be as many sid users as users of a juno 106 or mc 303 anyway) we use a quite unique instrument, and i think you have to be a lover of the sid if you buy the sidstation and this should be enough to get connected............ (this should at least be enough!!)
so after this mail some subscribers will call me an idiot, because im so engaged in getting in contact, but this could be a good start to form a specific musicians platform, because of the limited membership ( i dont really know how many sidstations already have been sold, and how many are in stock to be sold, but maybe daniel could inform us about this ( im really intrested in this!),
this could become a more closer forum, than all those musicians mailing lists with thousands of subscribers.
anyway i hope this mail has encouraged every member of this list to JOIN and maybe anybody still want to talk to me, even after this mail,
best regards,

dennis schrger

Heya,

> i see no activity out here...

I agree... never got an answer to my midi-patch problems from anyone. So here it is again: if anyone has the soundsets in _one_ midi or SysEx file and he/she knows it works, could you please send it to me? Many thanks!

> ...but it would be a lot of more fun (especially for me personally) if we could hear the sidstation in context with user-made music, but i dont really know if this is possible in this mailing list.

The list doesn't allow attachments. I can change that so we could exchange patches! We also have a common file area of 5 Mb at the Onelist server, so anyone who wants to upload a song with the SidStation in it, can always do so.

> anyway, joeri created this mailing list to form a platform for the community of sid users and musicians, and i think we should form a community, but i dont think it is a community, if only 10 people out of 51 get in contact to each other, even if they join the same mailing list of only a few sidstation users. (that's 53 members by now ;-)
I agree, but since this community is still young I think things will work out in the long run. As there will be more and more SidStation users (and users of other Elektron products?), I'm sure the community will improve. Also, when Elektron has more products, there will be more things to discuss (more features, more bugs,.. ;-))).

> and i think you have to be a lover of the sid if you buy the sidstation and this should be enough to get connected.

Well, I didn't know the SidStation but wanted to buy it since I have to make new sounds... Ever since I have it, I love it more and more and wouldn't want to miss it in my studio-setup anymore.

If I remember well, they are made in batches, so I don't think the stock will be very big.

Woops, it was switched off... my apologies! I just activated it!!! And I also allowed attachments so we can exchange patches etc. Please don't make big attachments though! Attachments bigger than 50kB are not allowed. Thanks.

> so why dont we start we start creating this feature!?! if anybody can explain me how to add this feature i will be the first, who

It's automatically added, based on your Onelist registration. You can now see all the subscribers. Tip: you can edit your personal setting so people can't see your entire email address. Might be useful for people who don't want to be disturbed.

Ciao,

Isn't it a better idea to use the common filespace? That way the
subscribers mailboxes won't be flooded, and the files will be available
for future reference.

I uploaded your Logic-environment just to get it going! :)

Hi "splank" (I'd try to get a better nickname ;)))

There are some free SysEx utilities on the web. Just do a search at
Yahoo or Excite with the word "SysEx".
Or you can check the sites of download.com ot tucows.com and maybe
there'll be a free SysEx utility.

Ciao,
Joeri
