Sidstaion album

2004-03-22 by qwerty_arcane

Out now on gnashed : enapa - ArkadMusik, a album based on the SIDchip
from the Commodore 64, 15 tracks with a nice retrofeel.

The main tool for this album is the Elektron Sidstation, some trax
are made completely in Sidstation using wavetables.

Regards/enapa : artist and label manager.

is this you? this stuff is good and very fun to listen to.
but I prefer the first section to the wavetable section (I haven't
heard the last section yet). anyway, if this is you that wrote it, I'm
curious if a Machinedrum is also being utilized. there's some very MD-like
sounds being used, it seems.

anyway, good stuff! thanks for sharing,
Joe

Dusting off the old Sidstaion

2004-03-23 by ofthicktum

Hello

Can anyone recommend any good links or point me in the right direction in creating beats
and melodic sequences using the Sidstation Wavetables.
I've been tinkering around but not having much luck. I think there are a few people
currently on this list that obviously know a few things about wavetables (nice tracks
qwerty_arcane!!! esp sea battle ).
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
David

I too have to chip in here (he-h eee) and give this release a big
thumbs up. I'm more a fan of traditional chip stuff where everything
is being done on the chip using a tracker, milking the little bugger
for all it's worth ...

and often when you get too much lofi sound going it muddies up into
total crap

but this album is a great example of restraint and using
multitracking to do something dynamic and interesting with those old
sounds, while breaking away from the old way of working, without that
fault i mention

this will likely get me flamed here but i always thought the idea of
casing SID chips in a synth module when the chips could be used in
computers to create whole tracks (rather than just a part) was kind
of sad ... but yes, i know there is goattracker and other things you
can use with the sidstation.

for those of you who have read this far through my shit, who are into
this sort of sound (retro, high energy and lots of ideas in lively,
concise tracks ... heh), check out 8cylinder's ch00nz (
http://rhinoplex.org/8cylinder/ ), he does a very similar style with
gameboys and building his own software, etc ... perfeect to mix with
this enapa ep.

and, that is all!
