Question about ordering MnM SFX-6

Question about ordering MnM SFX-6

2004-04-16 by Andy Tarpinian

I am going to order one at some point soon and I had a quick question about
ordering from elektron. For people who have ordered recently is it really
true that the import taxes are now included in the price? I just want to
make sure because the tax surprised me when I got my SID years ago. I'm
trying to weigh the benefits of who I should order from. I can get from
audiomidi.com for $40 bucks less (which I imagine is the shipping amount
that elektron charges) and free shipping. But on the other if you order from
elektron do they put in free posters like they did with my sid? Plus they
put cool little stickers on the package as well :) Also which do you think
is better for elektron, ordering direct or from someone else?

yes, it is!

I would suggest that (even over Novamusik.com as well) since they're great
folks and have very prompt shipping (as do Elektron). plus you don't have to
worry about it possibly getting held up at customs or getting fees by
mistake that you would have to dispute, etc.

I don't know if they have any such goodies for the MnM yet. if they do, I
want some! but either way, you'll probably get some literature about
the MD, Sid and Elektron, etc.

I imagine they get the same amount of $ either way (if that weren't the
case, I personally would order direct to try and support them as much as
possible). it's probably more convenient (for the reasons mentioned above)
to order from audiomidi.com given that you're in the states.

hope that helps!

Thanks for you thoughts Joe. I was also thinking it might be good for
elektron if I bought from say audiomidi because then it would help show that
their products are in demand, and worth it to carry, hence them wanting to
do more business with elektron.

I was just sitting here and thinking about this, and maybe I'm
missing something, but wouldn't Elektron make more money if you
bought direct from them? If they charge $1350 for the monomachine,
they get the whole amount, whereas a store buys it from Elektron at a
discount, so Elektron makes less. IN the case of say Novamusik - they
sell it at $1310 including shipping, so they are obviously paying
Elektron less than that. So, at least financially, why isn't it
better for Elektron to buy directly from them? Of course there are
reasons to want to sell through others also...

it's possible that your analysis here is in fact correct. I guess I was
just assuming that in bulk orders, some money could be saved on shipping
and perhaps even customs (maybe customs are different/cheaper when importing
for resale). in other words, Elektron likely pays $100+ of the $1350 just
for shipping and customs fees. so perhaps when they export 10 MnM's, 10 MD's
and 10 mini-MnM's they only pay $50 per machine?

I don't know. all we can do is speculate, really. but whether people buy
direct or not, it's great to see that people are interested in the MnM
and Elektron. so they're supporting Elektron either way - and they'll
certainly be rewarded through their enjoyment of the machines! :-)

Yea I see your point, for some reason I didn't think of that (duh). I guess
that elektron is willing to take a small hit on their profit per unit by
selling to these companies where they can reach a larger audience, ie. sell
more units. But if everyone still just ordered from elektron then those
companies would not think it worth it to carry their products anymore. And I
think it was NAMM where Daniel mentioned that they made some deals for
others to sell their products (although novamusik always listed MD and SID,
but most of the time was never in stock).

So elektron how best can I support u?! :)

I ordered mine from elektron on a Saturday, and it arrived at my place (in
New York) 2 days later. No extra charges, no customs hassles. My usual UPS guy
carried it in to me.

The only extra "goodies" were some brochures about other elektron products.
