song edit question

2004-04-29 by xxxxxxx232001

is there a way to edit individual patterns in the song sequencer
without havin the pattern change to the one that is playing. know
what i mean. if im trying to edit a pattern while in song mode, the
pattern always changes in the middle of my editing..

nope. songs are merely patterns strung together. you can change how
many times a
pattern will repeat within the song as well as the mutes, offset and
length of each pattern.
but you can't, for example, add parameter locks or change trigs and
have them be
specific to the song (and not the pattern).

But if you switch to pattern mode while editing a song, doesn't that make
it possible to edit parameter locks and such?

yes. and you can actually edit the pattern directly while in song mode
(playing or not). but
I thought he was asking if the MD/MnM can do song-specific tweaks. i.e.
trigs and parameter locks that are specific to the song. and, sadly,
they cannot do this.

i guess the answer is no. when im editing one pattern in song mode,
lets say i have two patterns back to back looping and i only want to
edit only one pattern, i have to be quik about my editing becuase
the sequencer changes the patterns while i am editing...ahhh.
nevermind. i hate trying to comunicate abstract thought.

I usually switch to the one pattern at this point. What I have been
doing recently is having four patterns playing in pattern mode in a
row. When I want to edit, it depends on the situation. The MD sounds
are quite easy to sequence getting it too perfect is not an issue it
comes out as a nice sound anyway. Midi parts you can still record
with the MD button. I find the way I want it played on my keyboard
then go back to the MD and hit the button to the same rhythm. Then I
go back to the patterns. I usually switch the four patterns to the
first two to chain. I play and press pause on the pattern I want to
edit. I usually get the first pattern to sound good, then I pause on
the second pattern. Then I do the same to the last two patterns.
Then I go back to all four and press pause when the appropiate pattern
needs a tweak or two.

I don't think song mode is that great for tweaking. You should use
the chain in pattern mode. I assume that is why they call it pattern
mode. In song mode you can tweak over a few patterns. I hope
Elektron comes up with a kit tweak page as was mentioned in the
requests a few month ago, so we can tweak different machines at once.
