The Carry Case

The Carry Case

2004-08-27 by endlessnessisticman

I've uploaded the pictures in the photo section. You can look at
those for reference.

I was surprised yesterday morning when I saw the package outside my
door. So I decided to carry it for work. I have a 1 1/2 to 2 hour
commute. I thought it was very comfortable. It's made out of the
material like many guitar cases. It did find it odd that a few
stitches were hanging out here and there but they weren't major flaws.
For the price? The zippers are quite sharp and difficult to move. I
expect they will losen up. It has a long adjustable strap and a large
clip and hoop on one end. The strap is very soft and comfortable. I
felt little strain on my shoulder for the commute. I had a rather
thick paperback an iPod and an umbrella in it. It has a large outer
pocket that could hold @ 4-5 stacked CD cases.

The inside has a velcro strap to hold down your machine and a divider
that has velcro ends so it's adjustable. It was a little difficult to
get the MD in there but with some adjustment with the divider it was
easier. The divider provided adequate protection on that side (16
button side). I could fit in the power supply a stereo cable and
three mono cables. That seemed to be the maximum. I could fit two
midi cables and much more (cables? laptop soundcard?) in the outer
pocket. I could also fit the manual in. I'm not sure how many
manuals or magazines could go in there.

There is a grey thin yet thick protective pad on the top. This is
great for the knobs. I have a problem of it being a bit too short.
It can easily shift to one side and leave a knob or two exposed. I
think it would be much better if they made it 1 or 2 cm longer.

I also think the sides and top part (audio I/O side) could use more
padding like the top knob pad. They do have padding but it's quite
thin. I could feel the corners of the MD. They are quite sharp. I'm
not sure what this could do in the long run.

All filled up it was quite comfortable with the strap. I was in my
underwear so I didn't take a picture of that. It's a nice bag. I
guess I could use it to take my MD to a friends or something. I
wouldn't travel with it. It is also a nice bag for just carrying
books or whatever to work or school.

As for the price, it's a bit too much I think honestly. For the price
I think it should have better protection considering a foam filled
pelican case is the same price (without shipping). I think the
quality could be better (hanging threads).

On the plus side it's a cool bag. No doubt. I'm happy with it.
Besides I haven't bought anything significant for myself in months.

Next up: Opening the MD. I've to go get a TAC 10 driver first. I'll
include a little lession on the behavior of metals and bolts.

aye, it feels unfinished. i find that the zippers catch on fabric really easily.
and that could have been avoided if it were a stiffer bag. it's nice when packed and
closed, though...

I like your Lego man keychain!

the bag seems nice, but I'd have to agree that it doesn't seem much more
protective than using the MD box to carry it around; though at least
it is
more convenient to use and more durable. still, I wouldn't mind having
one for small, simple trips to friends and band rehearsals; i.e. times
when I know I'll be guarding it anyway :-)

I have bought a GREAT case yesterday !
Find a picture at
http://www.musik-service.de/ProduX/PA/Zubehoer/Cases__Taschen/Stagg_FCMO7_Mi
krofonkoffer_EN.htm

I have removed the inner foam in the bottom of the case, and will replace it
with my own custom made foam for protecting the MD. I also need to use my
creativity on how to put the MD tilted forward for during use. Too bad the
case cannot close if the MD is tilted. Ideas for the latter part are
welcome!

Best regards, Roel

That looks like a nice case. I have to move back to the states soon.
I need a flight case or I would just use the MD box. They are pretty
good with these things. They put a fragile tag on them and they
handle it nice. I flew an ms2000r and a behringer mixer from Japan to
Korea and it was just fine.

I'd still want a hard case. I really like the bag though for general
purpose. It's great for carrying a camera for example.

No doubt the case is MD cool. But yea, it could use more padding.
Especially around the edges. And I didn't really care for the mickey
mouse foam insert? That should've been built/sewed into the inner
pouch. I know they were looking at other designs and delayed
releasing a case because they couldn't competitively price it. I'm
curious as to what those cases looked like and what was
sacrificed/compromised.

i think something like the pelican 1470 case, which is water- and, like, bomb-proof, is
a far superior buy at almost exactly the same price. i have a pelican case for my minidisc
gear, and i'm sure it'll outlive me. i'd have gone that route if i'd had a better look
at theMD bag (or waited for someone else to get and review it first ;).

Built another one for two 303s. :-)
