SYNCING MD WITH CUBASE / NUENDO

SYNCING MD WITH CUBASE / NUENDO

2004-09-04 by tahvenaine2002

Hello,

Sorry for yelling the headline, but I figured somebody might someday
search this and would see it better if it's typed with capitals. Here
are my working settings from MD and Nuendo(2). I tried to include
everything that I thought might have some issue with syncing. I'll
just copy+paste what I wrote and gathered at home today:

HOW IT WORKS:
MD gets Midi Start-command from Nuendo and starts playing ok (MD
syncs to internal-clock). Sync is ok under minute or two. After then
it starts to fail (when recording every pad to different tracks. This
can be also confirmed when recording one pad two times to different
tracks; tracks start to loose sync somewhere between 1-2 minutes). MD
signal hits to Nuendo file at 25 ms late, so 12 ms a soundcard
latency and 13 ms somekind of MIDI and MD start latency. This 25 ms
must be cutted off at the start of every recorded file. After then
everything hits ok. When cutting the tracks it may look like there is
a difference in ms, don't mind it, after cutting everything should
play fine. All in all a workable setup (for recording that is. If
doing sync with other material from computer turn latency down. At
3ms its very workable even with MD-start latency (13ms or so).
Getting sync from Nuendo (MD sync set to External) works too, but
looses swing (it's quantized to 50, 60, 70 or 80%)).

COMPUTER:
Athlon proseccor with Sis-chipset mainboard.
Soundcard = RME Multiface (Driver 2.6.2.0)
ACPI Uniprocessor PC = On (Installed as Acpi machine)
2 Usb ports Enabled

If something is missing I can look it from my computer, but I'm not
going to run any repair-your-computer-service or compair-mine-and-
your-settings here (I hate that).

I hope someone enjoys this and finds it usefull :)

Toni,

Thankyou very much for taking the time to detail all of that for us.

Browsing through them they look like the settings I have been using
but will try them in earnest when I get back to the studio.

Many thanks, it is appreciated!

that's great!

never could pull off a MD/cubase sync very well -
definately gonna give your spec's a try. thanks for
the info!
