Noise and programming

1999-11-19 by .m.

Hi all,

I just recieved my Sidstation the other day and have been tooling around
with it.

The manual recommends getting a noise gate, any suggestions on model/makes
and price range?

Also any tips on how to program this thing, this is my first synth, so
everything is a bit new to me...

thanks

you can buy used gear. the price for a cheap gate is about 100 - 200 $ US.

programming: the most of them have at least three parameters:

- attack
- threshold
-release

attack is the responsetime, after the input signal gets higher as the
threshold is adjusted. release is the time the gate needs to close.

the threshold should be adjusted as low as possible, but high enough to
close. it depends on the level of noise from the sidstation.

conect the sidstation to the gate. put the volume on your amplifier to the
highest. ATTENTION. don\ufffdt press any hey on the keyboard. otherwise you\ufffdll
kill something :-)

then screw arround with the threshold parameter. when it is in the most left
possition, the noise will be heard. then increase is slowly until the noise
will disappear.

for percussiv sounds the attack and release time should be short, for pads
and others longer.

i hope i could help.

sorry for my bad english.

bye
