Virus/hack warning!

Virus/hack warning!

2004-09-12 by divi309

Dearest co-listers,

I received a very strange mail coming from 'Yahoo! Groups
[notify@yahoogroups.com]':

"We are unable to deliver the message from
<theartistformerlyknownasvandoren@h[...].com>
to <.890.43435.m12@yahoogroups.com>.

Your message was sent to a group that does not exist. Please check
to make sure you spelled the group name correctly.

For further assistance, please visit
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/"

as an attachment the supposedly sent message is included wich says
"password:" followed by a string wich i will not copy here for safety
reasons but wasn't familiar to me.

as an attachment there is a file "the_message.zip" wich i didn't open
'cause it reeks of virus from kilometers away (or miles if you prefer...).

i didn't send anything like that to any yahoogroup so i have no idea
why i received it. i just wanted to inform you guys about this and if
anyone has an explanation i 'd be happy to here it. my only guess
would be that my pc is infected with a virus that sends this message.

greets, divi aka dtr

no this is not the case,
its indeed a virus but it just has your email adress from a list..
its not your computer thats infected its someone elses.. some one that you prolly dont even know.. the virus fakes the email adress.. and mails itself to a lot of other email adresses.. and when that email gets intercepted by automated services (say yahoo groups) that automated service sends YOU the email cuz it thinks that you sent it.. (but you didnt.. cuz the virus faked the email adress)

thats the idea..

greetz
Y
ps. its never a bad thing to check your system for viruses so i suggest you do that. just to be safe..
