Monomachine freezing

Monomachine freezing

2004-09-22 by Michael

Sent this in to elektron, but thought I'd see if anyone here has had
a similar situation -

My monomachine recently decided that it likes to freeze at random moments, and it
sometimes freezes along with the screen going almost white. Also, certain presses on the
bank buttons will make the screen go lighter as well. Sometimes when it freezes, a loud
high frequency feedback is fed out of the main outs.

It also won't accept OS 1.04 in any way, I've tried loading it
through Sysex Librarian on Mac OSX, as well as playing the midi file in from Logic (I work
on a mac in OSX, with a Midiman 4x4 midi interface. I've done this with only the
monomachine connected also) It does one of two things - gets to a point and says
"upgrade failed", or else it just hangs. I've tried it at multiple tempos in logic to see if
receiving it faster or slower makes a difference - it doesnt.

Any ideas?

have you tried a factory reset or memory clear?

try it again with sysex librarian but try setting your "delay between
messages" to be progressively higher and higher numbers. hopefully
it will eventually take. also if you have another MIDI interface,
try it as well. sounds stupid, right? but I can't upload Sysex
files to my MD using my $750 MOTU 828, yet my $40 Midiman Uno
works just perfectly! so it's worth a shot, at least! :-)

good luck!

Tried both, no dice on either. I've also switched which power outlet
I'm using it on, as I saw there were issues with grounding? It's
behaving a little better, but still crashes. The screen lightening
isn't happening so much though.

The updates I tried was with a midiman 4x4, I have an 828 too,
haven't tried it on that yet :D

I'll have to check out the options i have in the sysex app - I
successfully dumped and reloaded my entire library last night, and
did a full system restore, but stopped screwing around for the night
shortly after. Tonight I'll give it a go and see if I can get it to
take the OS upgrade (might fix some of the crashes - it seemed to not
like being synched to the MD, the 1.04 readme says the upgrade fixes
a crash when too much midi is received)

Thanks for the tips :D I hope I can get it back to 100%, as I'm
looking to use it live in the next few months, and I want to trust it!
