MD Contest

2004-09-24 by tahvenaine2002

Hello everyone,

I was thinking that who will do the poll for MD contest. Earlier I
said that I can do it, since Joe has done a lot concerning the
contest, I thought maybe Joe could also do the poll? I mean it's ok
with me and could be more clear if one person would do all the work
(if there are two chefs fooling around, soup could get messy...)

Toni.

I came back on the list after a long time...

can someone explain me the contest thing?

cheers

Look at the files section, you will find rules typed by Joe and some
mp3s.

Oh shit! I didn't listen other peoples work at (because I wanted to
be unbiased), can't we let it be open, so that people can listen
them. Is there any reason to close it?

I think just choosing some particulary machine will get boring. We
will just go thru MD, machine by machine. I guess people could swing
some other ideas too, not to be machine-specific at all.

Toni.

done! we had a total of ten entries. hopefully it grows a bit
to get even more interesting. unfortunately, I couldn't
contribute this time around, due to computer problems. :-(

please note that the files section is temporarily closed while
voting is taking place. I'll re-open it on the first so that
next month's contest can begin.

we also need to decide a couple things:
1) are we going to continue choosing whichever machine we want
or will we choose one machine each month? personally, I
think that would be the most interesting approach...

2) if we are going to choose one machine each month, how will we
choose it? I think that the winner from the previous month
should choose the machine for the following month...

if anyone objects to these ideas, please feel free to say so.
otherwise, I guess we'll just go ahead with that...

it's still open for downloads, just not for uploads. I only
closed it so that further submissions/additions aren't there
to confuse things. and it will make it easier to archive and
start fresh next month.

ok. so we have one vote for choosing one machine each month (me) and
one for choosing any machine each month (you). anybody else?

Re: [elektron] MD Contest

I would say we should all have to use the same machine.

Maybe the winner can choose the pattern? Just an idea. although I've
had trouble loading patterns and kits on to my MD.

I agree. That way the entries will be more comparable. It's easier to
get a nice pattern if you're using the EFM BD than if you're using
the GND Impulse.. :-)

MD Contest

Hmm.... Nobody seems to want to participate this month. Is it because of the machine I
picked, because of the holidays, are people burnt out on the contest or busy or what?

When's the closing date? Mine is coming in a couple of days, and I
know that at least one more entry is on its way from Thomas of Valve.

How about you Joe?

that's good to hear! the closing date should actually be today. but I
guess we
should extend it until next monday since there's only one entry now.

it's done. it just needs to be recorded and uploaded; I just put off
doing that
because the response was so small.

it's not a bad idea, if there's interest. we would definitely need more
webspace for it though, as we are at the limit of ours as is.

interest is the main thing. there doesn't seem to be too much for
the MD contest even. meaning that there's ~10 entries and we've
got ~1000 members. if a lot of people want one, though, then we
should investigate ways to make it happen.

I have (for all intents and purposes) unlimted storage. We could hang a
new site off, say, http://www.glaive.org/mnm/ or whatnot. It would be a
fairly simple matter to set up PHP file uploads. Maybe I'll just go
ahead and do it. Build it, and they will come, etc.

Perhaps the contest idea could be expanded include a Web repository for
MnM patterns and mp3s. Maybe I'll register a domain for it and be legit.
Suggestions for the domain name?

I tried but I couldn't make anything decent with the cymbal :D... would
love to hear some nice tracks with it though... (actually i made
something halfway decent then accidentally pulled the power cable out..
oops...all the kit had not been recently saved)

right on. that would be awesome, Scott! especially if you could
create a venue
where the MD contest could be hosted as well. that way, we could be
less limited
on space and people could fell less pressed for time regarding the
length of their
entries. it would be even greater if you could include a voting
system; especially
one where people could vote for the top three entries and rank them as
such. it's
much better than just choosing the best one.

that would be awesome as well. well, if you're hosting a forum for
both of them,
then something like "elektroncontests.com" seems appropriate
(especially since
we may wish to do this for future Elektron products too). if it's
only MnM, then
"monomachinecontest.com" or something would be appropriate.

That would be better to try to make longer say 2 min MD
patterns/songs. Adding SID and MnM contests would be cool to hear.
This could be a way to create a working forum.

Also what happened to that page of links of Elektron used music. It
had a list of names. The names were the link. I think Joe made it?
I think it should be in the Links section. Or I'm just stoopid and
didn't see it.

true. I think that even if it stays on the Yahoo forum, we should
change it a bit.
it should be that you get 1MB for your mp3 and that's it. if you can
squeeze a
two minute song into that (probably by using a low bit rate) then so be
it.

it should still be in the links section of the group's website.

I have begun setting up the site, which uses PHP-Nuke and PHPBB2 as its
core components. I have not set up a Nuke site before, so it will take
a bit of fiddling to get it looking right. Hopefully there are
pre-existing modules for uploads and voting, but I can write something
new if need be.

The site will serve as a nexus for all Elektron products, so we can host
MD songs there, as well as MnM ones (even SID ones :) ). Once the
initial look/feel and functionality is complete, I will make a general
announcement about the site's location.

I helped set up reasonstation.net back in 2001, and that site was quite
successful. In the long run, however, the site was taken over by people
who did not have registered copies of Reason, which was disappointing.
But worry not! Hardware, they say, is the ultimate dongle.

I've got a good idea for the domain name. I'll release it when the site
is ready for public viewing. Thank you for the suggestions!

Hi guys,

There's actually 2 threads running about new MD contests, one for a 'classic' contest, and
one for a new-style contest/collaboration:
