Re: [emax] PCD-60B compatibility questions with Emax 1

2014-06-09 by Ted Summers

The PCD-60b that came to me from a group member for testing worked fine. Of course only the PC Card slot works at ID 0- that is expected.
The only other thing that I know of that could be a problem is if the unit doesn't have the latest firmware......

But when I inquired with the seller, he was insistent that the PCD-60B would NOT work with an Emax 1. FWIW, from the photos, the internal drive itself looks just like a SCM Microsystems drive to me.

I've read enough posts here and elsewhere with folks who have success with the PCD-60B drive, that I was pretty sure it would work but wanted to see if there was anything I was missing.

I know the following caveats:

- CF card size 32-256MB is a safe bet, and to avoid high speed cards

- I know some CF cards as well as some PC Card Adapters can vary so trying a few different ones might be necessary

- I also know firmware makes a difference as some drives only had the older read-only firmware, but upgrading is possible

- I know the PC card slot is the only one that will be recognized and must be set for SCSI id 0

Am I missing something else that could potentially prohibit me from using the 60B? I'm thinking (hoping) the seller is mistaken.

Thanks,

Jim
