thanks for the tip, i tried the trick with the jack outputs but no luck
I also tried re-seating some of the socketed ICs on the audio board but now the distortion is even worse :(
i might try cleaning the sockets with a toothbrush and a bit of de-oxit

You can try reseating the ICs but first I would try to move the jack in and out on the output of the machine, weirdly that solved it for me, even though i changed all jack connectors on my machine! they seem to be short circuit on the PCB, I think due to aging and bad storage of the machine.
