Hi, 1) The EIII does not import Emax II samples - as far as I know. It was launched 2 years before the Emax II, and all development work stopped on it in 1988 because of its poor reliability and the . The EIIIX can import Emax II and Akai samples. I suspect E-mu didn't create backwards compatibility because they didn't think customers would want to spoil the EIII sound quality with Emax low resolution samples, times change..! And if you could afford a $15,000 sampler, you probably didn't own an Emax. Kevin at E-mu created a whole new sample library especially for the EIII. 2) E-mu Systems switched to the CEM filter chip mainly because SSM designs have dried up by 1987, and there wan't a current SSM chip available for a manufacturing run of 3000 units (thats 48,000 chips....). The CEM 3387 has a 3 and 4 pole filter in series and stereo pan - couldn't do that in a SSM2045/2047.... 3) LCD problems may be caused by a cracked PCB trace on the front panel board or LCD module or the LCD not seating properly or the Inverter playing up. If its a seating problem you should be able to recreate the problem my twisting/tapping the LCD module. Buzzing sounds usually mean a problem with the Inverter. Hope this help - rob www.emulatorarchive.com Hi, I'm almost positive you can't load Emax 2 files on an emax 1 but if you have an Emulator III or III X you can load them from a emax2 hard disk. a real shame the EIII can't read emax 1 banks.. honestly though the filters on the emax (to my ears aleast) sound better then the EIII or the EIIIX series samplers.. Never have understood why they strayed away from the SSM filters on the EIII and opted for CEM (curtis) filters.. anyone know the story behind this? BTW. I asked about my emax a few months ago cause of a sick lcd ( light suddenly going out and the machine buzzing and getting weird lines through it) I took it apart since and the power supply is working fine... it seems as if the lcd itself refuses to seat properly and the slightest movement or jolt sends it screaming.. I'm pretty much at a loss as it's been collecting some dust over the matter as my k2500rs and eIII have hard disks and are reliable... but I want to use my once trusty (still warmer, fatter) emax for stuff... anyone have any history with the lcd and it's seating? thanks, Nicholas [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
