I would be pleased to get a PDF manual of the specs...
I've found some adapters on the 'net, they seem to be
fairly common as they are meant for printer type
applications.
http://www.easysync.co.uk/rs422.htm
Check out the first item the USB-COMi for around
£31.40 ($53 USD Roughly)
Seems a little hefty but at least I know there is a
readymade available. :) - The big question is, is the
Emax wired according to the RS422 standard? Without
the manual, I don't know...
After doing a lot of checking around I found an
interesting prospect, that *MAY* (and I stress,
*MAY*)be feasible to add a simple module to that would
introduce sampler support.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
This of course falls under the GNU-GPL and as long as
I/We publish the changes it's all good. This SEVERELY
would cut down the work load. But I have to stress
this could be a while away... With my level of
experience, it may take 4-6 months, I can't estimate
it at this point until I hit books some more. At this
point I'm using the freely available Dev-C++ package
and I can do some basic WINAPI functions (like
creating windows, drop downs, menus, etc.) But as far
as I/O goes that's where I really have to strain the
brain.
But a methodical approach and user contribution
should make this possible. Having specs and
schematics help that prospect a lot, knowing there are
pre-fab interfaces, are also a bonus. This project
has a lot going for it, it's a matter of piecing it
together. I would be bold to say it's right under our
noses.
The other exciting prospect that with the advent of
OS-X and the ALSA/OSS projects, this would be VERY
cross-platform way down the future, but I'm looking
for basic win32 functionality to be ultimately
realistic about it.
John, sorry to hear about hurricane Isabel, it sounds
pretty bleak, I've been going through a similar thing
with the BC wild fires which threatened my home town
and had 10,000 people evacuated almost a month ago.
Hope you guys don't have to go through the same thing.
Anyway, hope to hear from everyone soon. I'm very
pleased with the positive response, and hope to get a
"central" web page going soon, replete with Emax
community links. :)
Cheers,
Chris.
