RE: [emax] Re: DAC chips

2005-12-01 by Michael Ella

True- I've heard of losing chips but it does make me wonder how 8 have been
damaged. I had taken it to a place that regularly services synth for me..but
they thought it was a dead power supply and original parts were unavailable.
They were wary to use anything 3rd party to fix it. This 2nd guy claims the
PSU is okay- but traced problems to the DAC converters.
I did find another chip that is said to be a replacement for the AM6012-
found it from a store supplying arcade game parts.(at about $5 each) I'll
see how these new chips work out.

Cheers,

michael

I agree.....
8 DAC chips bad ?
Is there somewhere else you could take it for a second
opinion ?

It appears that those chips are still made by
Phillips, although they
don't have a PC postfix, just D and F. I suspect they
would work
fine, although I'd like to at least compare pinouts.
However, losing
8 chips seems suspicious.

I found this:

You can't afford 8 of them though. I'm wondering if
it has an
equivalent that was more mainstream and also if it's
available surplus.
