Re: [emax] Could anybody send me an OS disk/Help troubleshooting

2005-12-18 by David Dehart

Hi........'
Are you saying your computer software should have the
ability to load the OS software into your Emax, but
the drive is stonewalling you with the "disk is not
formattated" or "disk error" message ?
Or do you have no method whatsoever to load the
OS.....?
If you do have the OS on your computer and you can't
try to load beacause of the error messages your Emax
is giving you, go to an office supply store and buy a
3.5" floppy cleaner......a fiber disk with a bottle of
alcohol solution (pretty cheap).
Run the saturated disk a few times in your drive and
your read problem might disappear.
I've had the same trouble in the past and thought my
drive was bad in one of my Emax's (Ihave a few) only
to clean the drive and find out it was just
dirty................getting completely normal
function after cleaning the drive,
If you have no OS source......i think you will need to
get an OS disk to even format one of your new disks
from Route 66.
I'm not really familiar with trying to boot from a
computer, but I'm assuming your method does have an OS
software to load into your Emax.....if that's not the
case, you will need to boot with an OS disk before you
will even know if cleaning the drive will solve your
problem.
Hang in there.....it's only a matter of time, or one
of the more experienced members telling you where the
problem is...

---------------------------------
Hey, I just got an Emax II (2215 - 4MB rack, no HD),
but I haven't
been able to use it yet because it didn't come with
any disks. I have
tried to use EMX and copyQM under DOS (6.21 and 7.0),
the latter of
which I am familiar with because it also works with
the Korg DSS-1
(which I also have). Every time I try to load a disk
(DSDD, brand new
from route 66), it either says "Disk Error!" or
"Floppy Not Formatted!".

Now, I have been having trouble with my PC (or
possibly the media)
having a high failure rate when it comes to copying
disk images - I
don't think it's my PC's drive, I've tried 4 different
drives as well
as a few different ribbon cables - the floppy
controller on my MB
might be faulty or something though.

However, I have also tried to copy images on another
PC entirely, also
with no luck. I'm starting to think the drive on the
Emax II might be
bad, but I'd like to get a known, working disk just to
be sure. I'd be
happy to pay $5.00 or so for postage and the trouble,
paypal
preferably but if you'd prefer I mail it to you I can
do that as well.

Alternately, if anybody has any ideas/advice that
might help, I'm all
ears! :)
