Not true at all. the HD I use in My SE HD Rack was opened many times and manually spun numerous times and then put back together and it still works fine. The trick with the HD, especially if it hasn't been used in a long time (most Emaxes you buy will fall into this category) is once you get it spinning, Format that fucker, and do it a few times, like say, 4. You can do the data check and the other Emax things you can do to the hard drive at this point if you want. That will wake up your drive and make it really perform. Then with the spinning up issue, when I don;t power my emax up for a while, the HD won;t spin up, now I use the rack, so this may not be possible on the keyboard version, but when this happens, I turn on the emax, and punch the panel with the instructions on it, this shakes the drive a bit so it can spin up, once it starts spinning sometimes I get a bit of gibberish in the display, and I turn it off then on again and it spins up now that the motor spun up just before. This probably sounds worse than it is, I actually used to manually spin the drive internally until someone on this list told me they just punch it (speak up, I owe you a thanks ;) and it beats having to open the emax and the drive. I have a spare drive that I could replace the one I have with, but for now this works fine, when I'm on point I power up my emax every couple of days to avoid the drive spin problem, but the punching is really a great trick. as for exposing the plates, I've even touched them, still no data loss. And that's how you navigate the Emax HD. Long live old samplers!! el ----- Original Message ----- From: gray To: emax@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 7:47 PM Subject: Re: [emax] Re;Emax SE HD issues You actually open the drive itself and exposed the plates.....if you did that I would say its toast..... gray ----- Original Message ----- From: angelo_negrette To: emax@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 7:39 PM Subject: [emax] Re;Emax SE HD issues Can someone offer me some direction as far as navigating the hard drive on an Emax SE HD? I purchased one off of E-Bay some time ago and it worked fine for a while. I was able to access the sounds off the factory loaded hard drive with no problem. Then the hard drive stopped working, so I opened the unit up and re-seated the cables and it functioned again. After it stopped spinning a second time, I opened up the hard drive case and spun it manually. I put it back together and it powered up, spun and the display stuck on 'loading software' after initially saying 'diagnostics'. Thinking that it was the hard drive, I bought a re-furbished one off E-Bay, but I am having the same problem. I don't see anywhere in the Emax manual or SE manual where it tells you how to access sounds or save sounds to the hard drive. Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long winded inquiry. Thanks in advance, -Angelo [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
