RE: [emax] Need SCSI Help!

2001-12-10 by Rob EmuArc

Hi,
The SCSI drive will take quite some time to speed up to full speed and be
ready for read/write. This is because the drives microprocessor is carrying
out its diagnostics. This can easily take 12 seconds+. The Emax II looks for
boot drives in SCSI ID order starting with 0 (floppy) and through to 7. If
the boot drive isn't ready it will cycle round the ID's looking for the
first boot record it can find. It is therefoe usually a good idea to set the
SCSI drive to 5 or later to give time for the drive to get ready. You have
worked out how to set the SCSI boot ID so thats cool.

You may find that the Conner is too slow, and it takes a second cycle for
the drive to be ready.

It also sounds like the floppy drive is registering a diskette in it when
its empty. Try inserting and ejecting a diskette to see if that clears it.
The Emax shouldn't be trying to read the drive if there is no floppy in it
(there isn't is there?)

We can send you Emax II OS 2.14 for free, this version is better at SCSI.
Send us your postal address off list to rob@....

Rob

  Subject: [emax] Need SCSI Help!

  Hi all,

I just installed a Conner 540 MB Hard drive in my Emax II rack, and it
works great, but...

I cannot get the system to default to SCSI 1, where the hard drive is. I
have the OS loaded onto the HD and would like to have the unit boot from
there. When I fire it up, it defaults to the floppy, and when there is no
floppy, it reads "loading software...disk not formatted" I will do this for
a minute or two and then check SCSI 5, then finally get to the hard drive.
When I go to the master menu and set the boot ID to SCSI 1, the display
reads "saving", but when I restart the system I get the whole thing I
described again.

  HELP!!

Also, I'm currently running the OS ver. 2.0 Does anybody have the most
current verion (or know where to get it...)

  Thanks,
  Frank
