My Emax II

2009-01-23 by Rei

Ok, I got my Emax II around JULY last year and had little time to explore it. I always wanted
a Emax II since a kid and now I am 33 finally got mine together with some other
keyboards: Roland D50, Ensoniq ASR-88, Roldn A-90, Roland JD-800 and a Oberheim
Matrix 6.

I manged to make my Emax II to work a few months ago but I have been waiting to install
the internal smart media drive that is waiting in Miami because I live in Venezuela and I
am waiting for some one to bring it here for now.

But last night I had an spare time and decided to make it work again. The floppies didn't
work and I had to re format the entire thing and download all the software to make the old
PC ready to work to have some library to work with.

After an hour or so I finally had my Emax II up and runing.

I am completly amazed with this sample. Sadly it does not have resonance filters but it is
so complete. I can even control the filters via external midi control!!! The navigation is so
quick, specially because you have all the menues infront of you. I have a Roland JV-90
with a huge LCD but without the cheat menu it doesn't help that much.

I would like to hear a Emax I to compare the analog filters.

But this sampler is just amazing, is cheap and amazing. It was meant for live performance
because the entire technology goes towards that:
1. All the functions are controlable one way or the other
2. The controllers you asign can be changed per instrument, I mean, a new instrument, a
new set of functions for the modulation wheels and pedals, that is perfect for each song.
3. The arpegiator runs just fine and is easy to use.
4. The way libraries are managed is very strait forward.
5. All the audio outputs you can have.

I have the Ensoniq ASR-88 (I used to have an ASR-10) but the Emax is more friendly,
therefore its value.

I have to go now, but wow... this thing is not a toy.
