Why don't you try lowering the gain and see if it distorts then? + 20 dB is a lot of gain.

Subject: [emax] Is the Emax I supposed to distort heavily when the input level is too high?















 




    
                  I was trying out my Emax I the other day and set the input level to like 20db's and on playback I got a really distorted, crunchy sound throughout the sample. 



I know that the manual mentioned that noise/distortion would be introduced if the input level is too high, but I just wanted to be sure that this is normal behavior and not indicative of bad chips.
