Re: [emax] Re: EMAX II Display Problems ....

2012-01-29 by Ted Summers

I think your confusion may come from the fact there are several different types of displays (EL (original item) and LCD) and circuit layouts for displays.
Others can clarify / correct / expand on this if they want....

There is a direct drop in replacement- EL and the pins line up and everything.
You simply solder on new pins and connect a pot for the viewing angle on pin 3 (typically).
my Emax 1 didn't need the pot, my Emax 2 keyboard did....

Another choice is LCD and same pin layout, but due to backlight being LED, you must do different wiring for 5V instead of the 300V AC that the EL (original) uses.

Then there are other options where the pins don't line up and you remove the connector headers because the display is too thick.
Soldering of pins which are in a different location is required.

When I got mine I got a direct replacement so no real complication was involved.

But the above is why there is no simple single explanation.
There are many variables here.

Thx,
Ted

Hello again.

Firstly, the problem still exists. If there is no one among the emax users who can help me, I guess I have to think about an LCD replacement like those which were already discussed here in the forum.

But to be honest I had my problems to understand everything because the persons who described it used an expert language. Maybe there is someone who could explain the changes with a 'simpler' language.
Perhaps there are photos ! :)

Please, it would be fantastic if you'd help me. In return I will show you (for those who still don't know) how to upgrade the emax memory... ;)

Thank you very much in advance!
