scsi to ide adapters have a delay this sometimes causes a problem on the asr10 it searches for scsi and it asks for floppy then goes to ask floppy again then boots saying loading software its must be something todo with the scsi to ide then the ide to cf interface a few seconds lag we have new hot swap cf drives 2 slots master slave we just use the cf slot as master we use the drive with our mpc60/3000 kits and i have confirmed it works with the a3000/4000/5000 ex5/r kurzweil k2000/2500/2600 asr10 eps16+ s1000/3000/3200/3000xl ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ted Summers" <djtbs1@...> To: <emax@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 12:57 AM Subject: Re: [emax] Emax II failing to boot from SCSI device OK- so I came home and did a little testing. I have an IDE to PC Card drive in my Emax 2. I have the ACARD 7720U to connect it to the SCSI. Now, what I find is this- I have 2 different PC-Card to SD card adapters. a Generic 6-in-1 and an edup MCR-5A. Now- with a known good / formatted flash (which I checked a couple of wks ago when I installed the OLED display). The 6 in 1 adapter it doesn't see it and fails to boot. Then it goes searching. So I boot from floppy and set the ID. Remove floppy and try and boot from it again. same - still searches.. So, the MCR-5A I like better (using in my Emax 1 usually). I take that and put in my 512MB SD It still requires boot from floppy. So I set ID1 Then I power off and this time it does "Checking SCSI ?" then directly boots from it. This generic works OK in my Emax 1, but did not work in the Emax 2- don't know if it is because of the SCSI bridge I have in Emax2 or Emax2 is just picky. or not all PC Card adapters are the same and fully compatible. But it seems like if Emax 2 doesn't find your SCSI one time, then even if the menu shows the ID it doesn't like it. It may be that a flag gets set in the EPROM that the drive ID may be set, but it wasn't really valid for boot last time. On successful boot it is possible that (if it sets that), that the bit is unset (or vice versa) It seems like once you boot from it successfully after setting ID, then the searching goes away. Anyways- that is the behavior I saw. On Dec 18, 2012, at 4:31 PM, Francis Cote wrote: Sounds risky.
