It sounds like two different problems.

The masterbutton can be dirty (bad/dirty pad). Maybe a cleaning of the underneathside of masterbutton with some alcohol will work. As long with the contacts on the printboard.

What do you mean with the emax is not being lit? The screen is not lit or the LED's don't light up?
