get a continuity tester with bell ring test the contacts on the back of the master switch

push the master switch button if it rings the switch is good

if not the switch is bad

check for cold solder joints on the back as the pads copper plate is week
  and can crack

is it a light green board or dark green

the light green boards are the worst

It sounds like two different problems.

The masterbutton can be dirty (bad/dirty pad). Maybe a cleaning of the
underneathside of masterbutton with some alcohol will work. As long with the
  contacts on the printboard.

What do you mean with the emax is not being lit? The screen is not lit or
  the LED's don't light up?

  Frank
