Re: [emax] Emax 1 - Making Diskettes

Your disks are DSDD (700k) not HD (1.44MB), right?

Hi there. 1st post, forgive the newb ? probably covered many times, but I checked the files section and couldn't find a step-by-step instructions for making a diskette and searching the archives for "making emax diskettes" didn't return anything.

I have an original Emax 1 on the bench here. It came with only one floppy diskette (piano). I can get it to boot off that one and play, seems everything works OK.

I did some searching and downloaded EMX and a couple of soundbanks off one of the web sites. I located a Win95 PC, booted into DOS and made a diskette with EMX.

When I boot off this new disk, I get a tone sweep that starts low and goes to 10K in about 15 seconds or so. When I boot off the supplied disk, then load the bank off the new disk, it plays OK, but sometimes crashes after a while.

When I put a new diskette in the Emax floppy drive and try to format from the system menu, I get an error.

If I can't format a disk (5-6 of the same batch) in the Emax drive, it seems to suggest the disks are bad, but they work fine in Windows/DOS. That makes me think it's the Emax floppy drive, but it works with the supplied disk.

Any insight/hot tips appreciated,
Carl
