EMAX 1 Broken floppy drive? wont copy OS or Format

EMAX 1 Broken floppy drive? wont copy OS or Format

2014-12-10 by ozgoskar@...

Hello. i have a issue with my emu emax 1 rack. I have a floppy with os 3.2 on it. the emax loads the os, and lets me save banks and samples too but it wont format my disk or copy OS. my akai s900 is formatting same floppys without any problems, the emax wont even format an empty(s900 formatted) disk. i bough it broken a month ago and finally fixed it. screen could be brighter.. yeah, but soundwise the machine is working great. now the last problem is the floppy disc drive. what could it be?

thanks.

Try to Replace the floppy drive and then observe the behavior.

You can look on ebay- someone has a drive that works for about $50, I believe.
The issue is that drives made now usually don't have any jumpers (and may not even have points to modify it.

So the options are limited.

Ted

I cant find it, must be gone now.

i been reading about those slim floppys for a while now, would this drive work?

i saw you posting this one: TEAC FD-05HG P/N 19307587-87 Dell PowerEdge 1850

the difference on those is the last numbers -87 ( -98 )
and they have mounting cases that would fit better in my emax, not leaving a big hole

you are correct- the listing for Emax compatible floppy drive on ebay is gone.
Any TEAC FD-05 should work. Interesting that those come with a metal casing to fit normal 3.5"- never seen that before...

Likely, but not guaranteed.
There are a couple of known models detailed in the archives that are known to work.
In regards to slim floppy- the adapter and modification thereof is detailed on the same website as the posted FAQ which I provided you the link for.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
