Emax HD Rack troubleshooting

Emax HD Rack troubleshooting

2015-11-02 by jon909@...

Greetings !

Newbie to Emax HD here.

Setup - KB controller midi OUT to Midi IN of the Emax

KB controller sending on CH01 and The midi channel setup within Emax's Preset Definition to Midi CH01.

No sound from Emax when using controller.

Audio output via Right output - "Mono"

Tried on all other individual output with no luck.

Did a Midi Analyser test, Emax displayed incoming Midi notes on CH01.

All Midi channels are enabled in Emax.

Any advise from the group will be Highly Appreciated.

Peace

Jon

Hi

And there is a sample accociated with the preset?
Have you loaded a premade bank or samples yourself?

Hi Niklas,

I think the Unit also starts up with some programs loaded internally since its an HD version and tried loading a few different floppies that came with the purchase. All seem to have the same uneventful result - no audio. : (

Check that:
The volume slider is up.
The channels aren’t disabled.
Clock is set to MIDI?
Midi MODE is set to poly or omni?
Midi START/STOP is set to on (since it’s a rack, you want the exernal device able to start / stop Emax via midi, right?)
Super Mode is on or off?

Also- you can’t have SERIAL and MIDI hooked at the same time as they use the same USART IC.

That’s just a couple of things to check (although obviously there could be more…)
If you haven’t read the owners manual, would highly recommend it… if you don’t have it, I believe it’s in the files section.

Thanks Ted,

The volume slider is up. - Checked

The channels aren’t disabled. - Checked

Clock is set to MIDI? - Midi

Midi MODE is set to poly or omni? Poly (tried Omni as well, both w no luck)

Midi START/STOP is set to on (since it’s a rack, you want the external device able to start / stop Emax via midi, right?) Not using the internal sequencer , but set to Midi ON (just in case)

Super Mode is on or off? Off (cant switch this to On)

Also- you can’t have SERIAL and MIDI hooked at the same time as they use the same USART IC. Only Midi connected

That’s just a couple of things to check (although obviously there could be more…)

If you haven’t read the owners manual, would highly recommend it… if you don’t have it, I believe it’s in the files section. Downloaded before i approached the forum , may have missed some info.

Cheers.

But you are absolutely sure you have a sample or samples loaded?
Could be that the preset is loaded, but that it does not contain any sample?

sounds like you have a blank preset loaded, use a disk that contains sounds or sample something then use midi to activate it, remember to set the key-range of the note also.

I have tried different floppies with sound banks, all with the same result. Will it be worth opening up the unit and make sure connector leading up to the output card sits tightly?

If you have disks or banks with sequences, see if the unit itself will play them, or create some presets to try to rule out audio or midi problem. You should hear some noise from outputs when unit is powered on or off, also sometimes the sliders fail.To use as a slave set the Emax to the same receive channel as the send channel on the master, there are several midi settings that you may have to adjust such as local control on/ or off. Settings have to be correct on master and slave. The manual may be helpful and possibly in the group files section. Another thing to consider is if loaded presets were originally created on a keyboard model you may have to go through and adjust midi settings on each preset for them to play with midi on a rack

dos the vu bounce when in sampling mode?

make sure you have something plugged in and adjust gain accordingly..

if the vu dont bounce double check the wire from the motherboard to input/output board reseat it.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
