Emax II memory upgrade

Emax II memory upgrade

2000-09-11 by Gordon Pearce

Does anybody know if it's possible to get the PALs for upgrading an
Emax II? Mine's got 2M, and a couple of extra banks where extra chips
could go. In the special menu there's something to tweak the EEPROM
settings, anyone know what the memory settings are?

Thanks,

Even though you have empty sockets in order to get anything more
than 2Mb you would need the daughterboard. I believe the empty
sockets you see were for the original 1Mb units. There are to
configuration paths for the Emax II, there was 1Mb units that went,
1,3,5,7Mb and then the units that came with 2Mb that go 2,4,6,8Mb.
But in both cases you need a daughterboard assembly to go beyond 2
or 3Mb

So at best it might be possible to fill those and go to 3Mb, but I really
doubt it. You will need the PALs and the amazing one time only
Installation disk. As always seems to be the case, you'll have to call E-
mu.

Emu are having a "sale" on an Emax memory upgrade on their web site. 2MB
goes for $50, part no #2208. This is (according to Silveria's website) the
non-daughterboard 2Mb upgrade. Mail emu and ask for other offers...

You will more likely find another machine that has been upgraded. I saw this upgrade on eBay once in the last 5 yrs and it was ridiculously expensive.

Mine has 4MB, and i think it has the daugtherboard.

I don't think EMU has anything left in their stock anymore (they swept off everthing hardware)..

I think those pals and dram chips are still available, the question is if we could get the code for the PALs and the install disk.

Is there anyone who has the missing pieces for this puzzle?

I cant promise, but i may put my hands on the original pcb drawing for the daughterboard for those, who hasnt got it.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
