Old Alchemy or Sound Designer? Anyone have a copy?

Old Alchemy or Sound Designer? Anyone have a copy?

2003-08-14 by jdowning_wood

I know it's taboo to ask for copied software, but since all the
companies that produced this software has long since vansihed
or stop making the saftware I figure there is no harm in asking.

So, anyone have a copy of Alchemy or SoundDesigner for the
Mac/Emax?

I have a boxed original Sound Designer for Emax
(Macintosh version), ca. '88, manual and cable
included. If my memory serves me right it doesn't work
with Emax HD software... well, I haven't opened the
box for years so I can't be sure.

The goods are in Finland.

Offers anyone?

Yeah. I have a copy of Alchemy. It was/is an amazing program. I am still shocked that it hasn't been scooped up
by someone as a structure to build a new sample editor.

The best thing about it was its ability to edit and trash sounds from the Open dialogue box and of course the
ability to save and transfer sounds from different samplers.

Anyway, contact me.

Emax I floppy drive?

2003-11-04 by not-your-average-doodah

Hi all,
my Emax I HD works fine except for the floppy drive
)it reads a disk about 1 time of a hundred).
What type of drive should I use as a replacement?
I remember someone saying here that old Atari or Amiga
drive is compatible, is that true? I have both so it
would be great if either one of them would work with
my dear friend.

Any disk drive with standard 34pin floppy interface that can be set to ID 0
(all IBM PC compatible floppy drives are factory-set to ID 1; most aren't
even configurable). Teac FD235 should do - just keep in mind that
practically all 3.5" drives sold today are half-height drives which leave a
little gap above and below the replacement drive in your Emax. Live with
that, cover it up somehow, or try to order a special full-height bezel for
the drive (Hah! I tried that route with TEAC - they didn't even answer)...
or order one of these over-the-top-priced 1:1 replacement drives from
www.route66studios.com which should fit perfectly.

Bye,

  Hermann

I've ordered and installed an used TEAC FD235HF (9,90 EUR
including shipping at ebay) about two weeks ago and it's
working fine. It is half-height and grey-colored, therefore it
doesn't look too good but who cares if it's working correct!?

To install it, you just have to set the jumper to id 0 and
plug in the power supply and the date cable. Finished.

Have fun...
Bye Flo

Hi Rob,

Yes.

> can one be found in black? and are they an easy install?

Yes, they can be bought in black. With the current move to colorful PC
cases, they even became quite common, so a local computer dealer might carry
them. Or just do a search for "TEAC Black" in your local eBay... here are
the most common countries' cateories:

  http://listings.ebay.com/plistings/list/all/category44957/index.html
  http://listings.ebay.co.uk/pool1/plistings/list/all/category169
  http://listings.ebay.de/pool2/plistings/list/all/category169

They turn up every now and then, but are normally a bit more expensive than
the standard PC color ones. BTW, if you're careful, you can simply
disassemble a sperm-white FD235HF and spray-paint the front black or any
other color (just make sure to take out the clear plastic bit where the LED
sits :-)

The Samsung drive, AFAIR, needs a bit of soldering to convert it to ID 0,
but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Bye,

  Hermann

I would be interested in your Sound designer for Emax.

seriously interested.
I live in Italy.
Thank you in advance.

uno semplicemente formattato ed uno con il sistema operativo copiato;
ho comprato un emax mesi fa ed è fermo perchè non sono mai riuscito a
trovare nessuno che mi facesse questo favore (nonostante un paio di
appelli anche in questa mailing list); se ti va fammi sapere.

Ciao
