emax se

2000-10-20 by Jimne

hello emaxers:
i joined this list because my guitar player has a emax se keyboard
which was left up against the wall like a broom (!!) being unused.
i am working on getting a manual for it, and actually succeeded in
reprogramming some of his sample disks (hey, i have a mirage :)
If anyone can post some links and/or info about emax se, that would
be the coolest, as i have decided to rescue this keyboard.

(?)- how much memory is in se, and is it expandable, what's up
with the sequencer, and also banks? i have to check SCSI too (blue?)
thanks for yr help, jimne

I think a good place to start is my website (see signature below), I have
a FAQ and technical info. The Emulator Archive
(http://www.emulatorarchive.com) has some technical manuals for the
Emax, but not the actual Operations manual. However, if you read the
Emax II manual they have available you'll find that they function
basically the same.

Yes, and you can always order the original emax se manual from emu, I
have done that less than 1 year ago by their web service and it was
not expensive.

theres an image of the SE software disk here in the files section

download it and use, i think, http://users.skynet.be/emxp/index.htm, to make the disk

then boot your emax with this floppy and your emax will be upgraded to SE

EMXP is in principle not capable of making installation disks for Emax - it can only handle soundbanks and operating systems.
In reality it can do it if the installation disk image bas been created as a set of two parts (OS + SOUNDBANK) - however, the ones in the files section are not like this :)

No problem, there is another solution:

There are two ways of creating the SE Upgrade disk - in both cases you need an internal floppy drive in your PC, not a USB one.

1/ With Windows XP or higher:
   - download OmniFlop from http://www.omniflop.com
   - install the OmniFlop driver first, then start omniflop.
   - download EmaxSEUpgrade.zip from the files section of this Yahoo group
   - unpack it and write it to a DSDD floppy disk with omniflop (select Emu Emax (standard) as disk format in OmniFlop)

2/ With DOS or Windows Me or lower:
   - download EmaxUtil from the files section of this group
   - download SEUP.EM1 from the files section of this group
   - write the seup.em1 file to a DSDD floppy disk with EmaxUtil

One remark though: I'm NOT sure if the SEUP.EM1 / EMAXSEUPGRADE disk images from the files section can be used to upgrade an Emax HD to Emax SE HD.
As far as I understood there were two different installation disks:
- one for upgrading Emax to Emax SE
- another one for upgrading Emax HD to Emax SE HD.
As far as I know the disk image in the files section is for Emax to Emax SE only...

PS: the right links to EMXP website are http://users.skynet.be/emxp or http://www.emxp.net

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
