What's the problem with my Emax?

What's the problem with my Emax?

2004-03-12 by bostonxv

I own an Emax I and when I turn it on the sequencer lights turns on, as well as the Select/
Master and the Stop/Analog Processing ones. The display shows the "Please insert disk"
message, even with a disk inside. Looks like it's crashed. No matter what I press, it won't
respond. I just got a new disk drive (I thought that was the problem, as it happened to me
in the past) but nothing changed. As soon as I insert the disk, a repeated "click" comes
from the drive. Seems that it's trying to read it, but it can't.....

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ignacio Longo

You may need to re-formatt the drive or get the latest Emax software. I can send you a disk but you will need to send me a paid postage envelope to send you a floppy.

Is your hard drive removable or do you mean the hard disk? (internal)
also are you in Boston MA. I'm in Everett MA. maybe we can hook up and take a hands on look at that problem.

Well, I guess there was a little misunderstanding: It's not an Emax HD. It's just an Emax.
That's why it looked strange to me read about formatting the drive. Any suggestions?

First thing is to clean the inside of the Emax from dust. You can
also check the cables that are connected to the drive.
If that doesn't work, you can try to press down every cable that is
connected to some thing...

buy a working one on ebay......

probably about the same price as going in and replacing any single part
of the thing.

Perhaps your floppy drive is caput. Did you use a cleaning disk in it? If so, then get a new floppy drive for it and see.

Hey,
First of all im sorry but I cant help you...

The reason I'm posting on this rather old topic is that I've exactly
the same problems and i tried formatting several ways to get the
damn thing to work. But every time I get this stupid "emu os is
loading" plus the weird klick-klack sound. I'm currently waiting on
an Osdisc thats being sent to me but I have the ba feeling its the
drive, since I've formatted discs in emx that also got varified...

Any thoughts? news ? anything?

Jack

Hi! I'm a french guy so please excuse me if my english
isn't so good as yours...
I had the same problem with my Emax but i'm sure that
the floppy is not responsible. What OS version do you
use and did you upgrade your Emax using Emaxutility? I
think i have the answer for this problem but my Emax
isn't near me and i need to have it to describe you
what would you have to do.
See you.
