instrumental cover of Situation posted to Files section

2004-03-15 by John Silveria

As I mentioned yesterday I made a quick recording of my cover of Situation by Yazoo
and posted it to my website at

http://www.silveriafamily.com/mp3/situation.mp3 it about 6.6Mb.

It's recorded live straight out of my Mackie 1202 into my Sound Blaster Audio 64D
soundcard, the only processing was reverb from my old ART ProVerb. I recorded it into
Sound Forge 5 then ran a noise gate on it to eliminate a ground hum. From there I used
SF to compress it into a 160Kb MP3 file. Unfortunately, there are a few mysterious MIDI
timing glitches that show up every now and then, I'm still trying to track down where they
are coming from, they suddenly appeared in a few of my Cakewalk files. I sequenced
this song from scratch 6 years ago for my synthpop cover project Elektro.

Parts/Equipment run down.

The main bass line is a Matrix 1000. I still haven't found a bass patch I'm completely
happy with.

The main simple melodic parts including the Moogish warbling part during the verse is a
Juno 106.

All the drums/percussion are my Emax II.

All the neat filter/Q arpeggio stuff is my ESi-32. They are custom waveforms from my
Juno 106. I typically assign the Q to the Velocity the draw velocity curves to open and
close the filters. All these sounds can be made by my Emax II. I just used the ESi-32
because there were so many and it has a great MultiMode. The reversed noise gate is
also a sample of my Juno 106. I use it to always make sure the effect is always the right
length.
