Help!

My emax II is buggered again, when i switch it on the preset definition LED
and the one below come on, the LCD says that it is loading the software but
nothing happens and the thing refuses to work, any ideas as to what the
problem is and possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Anth.

Hi,
Your Emax II is failing to find the floppy drive.
This could be a loose cable, or a faulty drive. It could also be a fault in the disk controller electronics, but the first two are more likely.
You could also try different boot diskettes, but I suspect the drive is faulty.
Check the diskette power and interface cabling are all okay internally. Look to see if the LED on the floppy comes on or the drive makes any clicking noises (signs that it is alive).Replacements diskette drives can be bought from E-mu but they are expensive ($150). Alternativley look for a DS/DD drive and ensure the id is set to zero (they usually come set to 1).
Regards
Rob

If memory serves me correctly, the different function LEDs represent
different self-tests the Emax does at power up. If any of them light up it
is a sign that something specific failed the internal self-test. I'm not
sure what LED means what though.

It use to be available from me and it might still be available from
emulatorarchive.com

The problem is we were providing it in EMX format along with the EMX
utility for DOS and Windows 9x will not allow EMX to format Emax
diskettes proplerly. Therefore there is no way to get the OS on to the
disk once you have it. You'll have to contact E-mu or (I think)
emulatorarchive sells OS disks as well.

I think this problem is similar to the issue us ESi owners had where
Windows 9x writes information to the same Boot Sector that Emax
and ESi OS store OS information, this would make ESi drives
unusable and had to be addressed by E-mu is ESi-OS 3.x

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
